Teen Kills Parents Over iPod

A Norfolk, Va. teenager accused of killing his parents because they took his iPod away has pleaded guilty to two second-degree murder counts. Vincent T. Parker, 16, is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 18. Prosecutors say Parker, who entered his plea, told investigators that he got mad at his parents for taking away his iPod, reports the station. Woman Runs Over Mom, Toddler

A woman has been arrested after police say she struck and killed two people - including a two-year-old - with her car after an argument. Police say 27-year-old Lucresha Mints jumped a curb killing Latoya Skipwith, 25, and two-year-old Joshua Carter Jr. A seven-year-old was also hurt. Girlfriend Beaten Over Fishing Line

An 18-year-old Wilmington, N.C. man is charged with attempted murder after allegedly critically injuring his 17-year-old girlfriend in a fight that began over untangling fishing line. Five Charged in Murder by Overdose

Five teenagers who prosecutors say were part of a Washington County drug-dealing chain were charged with murder in the overdose death of a Woodbury girl. Tara Fitzgerald, 17, died Jan. 11, just hours after taking a synthetic LSD tablet provided to her and a girlfriend by one of the defendants. Washington County Attorney Pete Orput vowed that the charges, which stemmed from tracing the drugs "up the distribution chain," were a warning to drug dealers everywhere. Read more...

Triple Murder Suspect Dead

A man wanted by authorities in connection with a Central Florida triple murder died after being taken into custody in Tennessee. David Eugene Smith, 27, was taken to a hospital after a SWAT standoff at a Days Inn hotel in Knoxville, according to the station. FBI Agent's Conviction Overturned

A divided appeals court threw out the murder conviction and lengthy prison sentence for a former FBI agent in the decades-old mob-style killing of a gambling executive, one of numerous slayings linked to jailed Boston mobster James "Whitey" Bulger. Florida's 3rd District Court of Appeal ruled 2-1 that former agent John Connolly was improperly convicted and sentenced to 40 years for his role in the 1982 slaying of World Jai-Alai President John Callahan. Police Seek Triple Homicide Suspect

The manhunt for a gunman is on after three people were found dead late Monday in a central Florida home. Authorities are looking for suspect David Eugene Smith, 27, after a 14-year-old student returned home from a weekend event and discovered the bodies of her mother, another woman and a man in Lakeland, Fla. An associate of former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to a murder charge in the shooting death of a man near Hernandez's home last summer. The five remaining defendants charged in the hazing death of a Florida A&M drum major are headed for trial. Broward Judge Arrested on DUI Charge

Circuit Judge Lynn Rosenthal was arrested, accused of driving to work at the Broward County courthouse while under the influence of drugs, striking a patrol car and repeatedly hitting the gate of the judges' parking lot with her BMW, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office. The judge was also accused of driving into a concrete median on Interstate 595 shortly before her arrest. Deputies said Rosenthal admitted to taking an Ambien pill the night before and did not appear to have been drinking alcohol. Read more...

A Connecticut man has been charged with murder and cruelty to persons after the decomposed body of his 86-year-old mother was found in their home, police said. John Waszynski, 59, was arrested and appeared in New Britain Superior Court where a judge set bond at $1 million on the murder charge and $5,000 for the cruelty charge, a court official said. Authorities arrested a man suspected of strangling his wife to death in Fremont, police said. Police found 39-year-old Anita Sidhu dead inside her home on Royal Palm Drive. Authorities immediately deemed the death suspicious after finding evidence that suggested she was likely strangled, police said. A man has been found guilty of second-degree murder in the strangulation and dismemberment death of his ex-girlfriend. Rapper Wiz Khalifa Busted for Pot

Rapper had his "rolling papers" but not his identification papers when he was searched by TSA agents in El Paso, Tex. The rapper was arrested for marijuana possession after he was stopped at a checkpoint in El Paso's airport, the Associated Press reports. Because Khalifa traveled without identification, Transportation Security Administration agents performed a search and discovered a container full of marijuana. Fox News anchor Gregg Jarrett was released from jail following an alleged drunken bust in a Minneapolis airport bar. Cops said the 59-year-old weekend anchor appeared wasted and was belligerent during a run-in with police at the Northern Lights Grill at Minneapolis-St. Paul airport.

Missouri Inmate Gets Execution Stay

The U.S. Supreme Court temporarily halted the execution of a Missouri death-row inmate with a birth defect less than two hours before his scheduled lethal injection. The Tuesday night order by Justice Samuel Alito capped a long night of legal maneuvers. The full court will look at death-row inmate's Russell Bucklew's case on Wednesday. Denver police officials say they were delayed in responding to a woman who was killed 12 minutes into a 911 call due to a dispatcher's failure to relay information to officers about the gravity of the situation. An internal review says officers' response to the woman's home was reasonable and appropriate, given the limited information the dispatcher gave them. A northeastern Pennsylvania judge has ruled a woman charged with her newlywed husband with luring a man through Craigslist and killing him can face the death penalty. Northumberland County judge ruled a jury will be permitted to consider torture and robbery as aggravating factors that could justify the death penalty against Miranda Barbour. Investigators say Barbour stabbed Troy LaFerrara about 20 times in her parked car while husband Elytte Barbour held a cord tight against his neck from the back seat last November and then dumped his body in an alley. A pair of South Carolina men were busted for disorderly conduct after they refused to pull up their trousers during a disturbance at a local Waffle House, authorities said. Two Bronx, New York men were arrested transporting $11 million worth of heroin in what is being described as the biggest drug bust of the year. The arrests of Edualin Tapia and Guillermo Esteban Margarin come at the end of the a six-month investigation. Police arrested a man who is accused of robbing several Subway restaurants including locations in Pembroke Pines and Miramar. Daitrium Turnbull, 24, was charged with seven counts of robbery, including armed robbery and strong arm robbery. He was also charged with resisting arrest. A Cook County judge ordered a suburban man held on $50,000 bail, after he allegedly led Chicago police on a car chase that ended in a crash on the Near West Side. Kristian Hoodenbach, 23, of west suburban Addison, did not appear injured when he appeared before Judge Donald Panarese. Four people are facing charges after police said two of them robbed a woman at gunpoint on her driveway in north suburban Niles, while the other two sat in the getaway vehicle. Man Claims Zodiac Killer Was Father

A Louisiana man claims in a new book that his biological father was the notorious Zodiac Killer of northern California, who's still sought by authorities, publisher HarperCollins said. The Zodiac serial killer is believed to have killed five people in 1968-69 and gained notoriety by writing several letters to police boasting of the slayings, with swatches of bloody clothing as proof of his claims. Prosecutors in New Jersey say a missing woman found in a shallow grave was buried alive. Two men, including a landscaper who worked for the woman, were arraigned on murder charges in her death. A federal appeals court halted a convicted killer's scheduled execution so his attorneys can pursue appeals arguing he's mentally impaired and ineligible for the death penalty. A mother is making a plea for help to find her 27-year-old daughter, Janelle Henderson, of Tigard, Ore., who was last seen more than two weeks ago. Police say Henderson was last seen Sunday, April 27 leaving Scandals lounge and restaurant in southwest Portland around 9:30 p.m. Henderson's mother says her daughter borrowed a cell phone and called a friend earlier that night saying she intended to go home that evening, and according to the bar's surveillance footage, she left alone. A marijuana grow house under a doghouse may land someone in the big house. Florida police acted on an anonymous tip that led them to a home in west Miami-Dade where they said they found a doghouse covering a crawl space that led them to about 64 plants and 50 pounds of marijuana. Convicted Killer Faces More Trials

Two men, a woman and a 2-year-old boy were brutally beaten to death in an apartment they shared in the northwest Illinois town of Rock Falls in June 2008. Each was hit with a hammer, again and again, an autopsy later showed. Authorities say the man who swung that hammer is Nicholas Sheley, who already is serving two life terms for killings in Galesburg and Sterling that same June. Police in Anne Arundel County have identified the victim as 43-year-old Christie Lynn Pelland, a cleaner who worked in several offices in the Medical Arts Centre of Glen Brunie, where her body was found. Police fatally shot a 25-year-old woman after a traffic stop and foot pursuit in Oregon, but her family says they're providing little information about why the fatal shots were fired. Salem Police Officer Trevor Morrison pulled over Jacklynn Ford in a traffic stop shortly after 10 p.m. Friday night, according to a Salem Police press release. A McHenry County judge sentenced a northern Illinois man to 36 years in prison for raping a woman he met via Craigslist. Charles Oliver, 46, of Woodstock, Ill., was accused of raping as many as eight women. In February he was convicted of sexually assaulting one woman. Chris Brown has admitted he violated his probation, and has been sentenced to serve an additional 131 days in jail. Oklahoma Executions On Hold

Oklahoma's attorney general agreed to a six-month stay of execution for a death row inmate while an investigation is conducted into last week's botched lethal injection. Attorney General Scott Pruitt's office filed court documents saying it wouldn't object to a 180-day stay of execution being sought by attorneys for inmate Charles Warner. While the stay request only applies to Warner, Pruitt and Gov. Federal prosecutors say a Pennsylvania woman has agreed to plead guilty to stealing more than $520,000 in Social Security checks over the span of 30 years. Investigators say 71-year-old Susan Stock, of Carlisle, continued cashing the checks following her mother's death in 1983. Police in central Georgia are investigating the slaying of an 88-year-old man and are also searching for his 87-year-old wife, who they fear might have been abducted from the couple's lakeside home. A suburban Minneapolis man who had a long-running dispute with two neighbors over feeding deer opened fire on the couple and killed one of them, hours after his son was arrested on suspicion of threatening to burn down their house, according to criminal charges. Colorado Nixes Felony DUI Bill

A bipartisan proposal to make repeat DUI offenses a felony in Colorado was quashed by Democrats in a Senate committee — a move that angered some lawmakers and victims rights advocates. Under the proposal, sponsored by Sens. Steve King, R-Grand Junction, and Mike Johnston, D-Denver, anyone who gets a third DUI in a seven year span, or is charged with a fourth DUI, would be charged with a Class 4 felony. Father's DUI Crash Kills Son

A 29-year-old man has been charged with drunk driving in a crash that killed his 4-year-old son and injured two other children. Illinois State Police said Shannard Dyer, of Romeoville, was driving a Dodge Journey south on Interstate 55 near Interstate 355, with three children in the back seat, when he lost control of the SUV. The vehicle hit a concrete median wall and flipped over, ejecting all three children from the SUV, police said. Read more...

3rd Man Suspected in Bobo Case

A third man, who originally had been given immunity from prosecution in the case, may now be indicted along with two previous suspects in the kidnapping and murder of missing Tennessee nursing student Holly Bobo. Shayne Austin is expected to be indicted along with Zachary Adams and Jason Autry, who have been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping. Teen Charged With Killing Troopers

As two state troopers struggled to arrest his father, a 19-year-old man armed himself with an assault rifle and shot them seven times, killing them outside his home in a remote Alaska village, authorities said in charges. Nathanial Lee Kangas appeared in a Fairbanks court two days after Trooper Gabriel "Gabe" Rich and 45-year-old Sgt. Patrick "Scott" Johnson were shot to death. A group of armed men forced their way into an apartment in western Pennsylvania filled with children. According to Baldwin police, it happened in The Residences at South Hills Complex, with up to six masked men entering the apartment and demanding money from a woman who lived there. Two Alaska State Troopers were killed in a tiny village in the center of the nation's biggest state, the agency said. At least two inmates died and more than 150 other people were injured when an apparent gas explosion collapsed part of a county jail in the Florida panhandle, officials said. Tennessee Law Targets Pregnant Drug Users

Tennessee women who use drugs while pregnant can be criminally charged for harm done to their infants beginning July 1. Gov. Bill Haslam signed the legislation after "extensive conversations with experts including substance abuse, mental health, health and law enforcement officials," he wrote in a statement. "The intent of this bill is to give law enforcement and district attorneys a tool to address illicit drug use among pregnant women through treatment programs." Read more...
