Jurors in the Boston Marathon bombing trial wept and others turned away as gruesome autopsy photos of a slaughtered 8-year-old boy were shown in court as the prosecution rested its case. Martin Richard's left arm was nearly ripped off and his chest blown open by a blast so strong it also sliced through his liver, pancreas and large intestine, fractured his ribs, ruptured his stomach and cut both his abdominal aorta and his spinal cord almost in half, a medical examiner testified. Missing Student Killed on Freeway

A University of California, Berkeley soccer player who disappeared after a weekend party was killed by a car as he ran across a Los Angeles freeway, police said. The 19-year-old freshman, Eloi Vasquez, died early Saturday on eastbound Interstate 10 about a mile from the University of Southern California after he was seen leaving a fraternity party. River Searched for Sorority Student

Police in Minneapolis say a University of Minnesota student who has been missing for three days appears to have gone into the Mississippi River, and they're starting a water recovery effort. A police statement says Jennifer Houle was seen on video entering the river from the 10th Street Bridge. The statement didn't provide other details, but said no suspects are being sought. Boy, 2, Found Dead in Restaurant

A 2-year-old boy was found dead in a restaurant bathroom in the midtown Manhattan, and a woman who had been with him was taken into custody. Police say the 35-year-old woman locked herself in the bathroom with the boy at 5 Boro Burger, at 36th St. and Sixth Avenue. A police source said the woman refused to open the door but workers at the restaurant eventually gained entry and found the boy unconscious and foaming at the mouth. Read more...

Girlfriend Killed During Drug Deal

A Gwinnett County teenager has been charged with murder for allegedly killing his girlfriend during a drug deal. Omar Ezzikouri, 18, was arrested and charged with felony murder and conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance, Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Deon Washington said. That controlled substance was Xanax, he said. Officers responded to a person shot call in the 900 block of Arlington Drive near Tucker and found 18-year-old Jessica Moreno "inside the home with a gunshot wound." Read more...

Atlanta Rapper Young Dro Arrested

Djuan Montreal Hart, better known as rapper Young Dro, was arrested on a theft charge, according to DeKalb County jail records. The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office charged Hart, 36, of Atlanta, with theft by conversion of leased or rented personal property for a February incident, booking records showed. 7 Shot at Spring Break Party

Three spring break revelers were critically wounded when a gunman opened fire at a crowded house party on the coast of Florida, authorities said. Seven victims, who included a handful of Alabama A&M University students, were found at the Panama City Beach bash, one of whom had been shot in the head. A desperate spree of 911 calls brought deputies to victims strewn about a home at 5312 Thomas Drive, steps away from the sandy beach. Sorority Member Missing, Purse Found

Friends fear the worst as the search continues for a University of Minnesota sorority member who went missing after a night of bar hopping. Jennifer Houle, 22, was last seen at an off-campus Irish pub, and cops later discovered her purse about three blocks away in the middle of the street, authorities said. Human remains found in rural Georgia woods possibly belong to a mother of three who has been missing for almost two months and told family members she was worried "something was going to happen" to her, police said. Decomposing Woman's Body Found

The decomposing body of a drug-addled mother of four was found in a Bronx apartment, wrapped in a blanket with her hands bound, police sources said. Officers discovered Milagros Rolan's corpse inside an apartment on Tinton Ave. near E. 168th St., cops said. Amanda Knox, who plans to return to Italy and write a book on the country's justice system, was acquitted of murder only because she's "American and rich," a former bar owner once falsely accused of murdering British student Meredith Kercher has claimed. A New York woman vowed to disobey a judge's orders to send her child to visit his ne'er-do-well father in prison, saying she'd rather go to jail than connect the boy with the biological dad. Vanessa Volino, 35, spoke to reporters in the aftermath of an appeals court ruling that she must send her son Vincenzo Volino, 5, to visit his father, David Kadio, in prison. Jury Votes 'Life' in Running Death

A jury is recommending life without parole for an Alabama woman convicted of capital murder in her granddaughter's running death. Jurors rejected prosecutors' pleas for a death sentence for Joyce Hardin Garrard in the February 2012 death of 9-year-old Savannah Hardin. Attorneys for a California man who reported that his girlfriend, Denise Huskins, was kidnapped in what police are now calling a hoax, say the man himself was bound and drugged during the abduction and that it was not made up. Attorney Dan Russo says his client Aaron Quinn, 30, did not immediately call police when his girlfriend, 29-year-old Denise Huskins, was abducted early Monday because at least two kidnappers "forced him to drink something" they said was a drug. The Colorado woman accused of cutting a seven-month-old fetus from the mother's womb will not be charged with murder, the Boulder County District Attorney's Office confirmed. Dynel Lane, 34, who police said likely suffers from a mental illness, lured Michelle Wilkins to her Longmont, Colo. home with a Craigslist ad for baby clothes on March 18 and instead attacked Wilkins. Missing Spring Breaker Found Dead

A missing spring breaker was found dead in a marsh near a South Padre Island water park, Texas authorities said. Jordan Britten, 20, was wearing just his boxers when cops and cadaver dogs made the grim discovery, a city spokesman said. Cold Case Indictment Tossed

A Bronx judge tossed an indictment against a man nabbed in a 1993 cold case murder because the accused killer didn't get a chance to tell his tale to a grand jury. Jonathan Jolivert, 46, was arrested by city detectives on Feb. 14 after police said DNA evidence linked him to the killing of Michelle Page, his son's mother. 'Abducted' Woman Found Safe

Police say Denise Huskins, a 29-year-old woman who was reported abducted from the San Francisco Bay area, has been found safe at a relative's home in Southern California. Huntington Beach police Officer Jennifer Marlatt said in a statement that detectives are at the scene of the relative's Huntington Beach home. Huskins' father told the San Francisco Chronicle in a telephone interview that he received a voicemail from his daughter Wednesday morning saying she had been dropped off at his home in Huntington Beach. Inmate's Death Ruled Homicide

The coroner in Las Vegas says the death of a Nevada state prison inmate by multiple gunshots more than four months ago was a homicide. Clark County Coroner Michael Murphy said Wednesday that 28-year-old Carlos Manuel Perez Jr. died Nov. 12, 2014, at High Desert State Prison of multiple gunshot wounds to the head, neck, chest and arms. The two men accused of killing Steven Williams lured him out of his house by telling him his wife was in danger, police say. Under the direction of his wife, who police believe was motivated by suspicions of infidelity, the men drove Williams to a quiet spot under a bridge near the White River in Indianapolis. Once there, the two men let Williams make one final plea to his wife on a cellphone to spare his life, court records say, before she told the pair to "do it." Seattle cops captured a wanted man in connection to last month's violent robbery of a married couple outside their doughnut shop hiding inside a cramped crawl space. The beating left Chea Pol and Heng Hay bloodied and bruised when the 21-year-old suspect attacked them outside their shop south of downtown Seattle. A Scottsdale woman is accused of exposing her newly augmented breasts to adults and children, and of performing a sex act on a teenage boy, all at a Bar Mitzvah party. Police in the city near Phoenix say 32-year-old Lindsey Radomski was arrested and is being held on suspicion of sexual conduct with a minor, sexual abuse, felony indecent exposure and misdemeanor exposure. Debra Milke Exonerated, Freed

The murder case against an Arizona mother who spent 22 years on death row was dropped, a quarter-century after testimony from a detective with a long history of misconduct helped put her behind bars. A Phoenix judge dropped all charges against Debra Milke and allowed her to remove her electronic-monitoring ankle bracelet, which she has worn since she was freed on bond in 2013. Woman, 30, Kidnapped for Ransom

A 30-year-old California woman was kidnapped from a Bay Area home and is most likely being held for ransom, police said. Denise Louise Huskins was abducted from her boyfriend's Vallejo house at about 1:55 p.m. Her captor also took a white Toyota Camry from the house, Vallejo police said. The car was later found abandoned in an undisclosed location. Huskins is a physical therapist at Kaiser Vallejo Hospital. Read more...

Texas thieves made off with 45 guns including assault rifles when they broke into a collector's home, officials said. Joe Lohmeier was on a trip to Mexico when the robbers raided his Travis County house. The bandits swiped the weapons, 1,000 rounds of ammunition, jewelry and a coin collection — a haul totaling $200,000 — before he returned home. "There were leaves everywhere. 2 Children Found in Freezer

Two children were found dead inside a freezer in a Detroit home, police said. Authorities found the bodies of the two children, a 14-year-old girl and 11-year-old boy, in an apartment in the city's east side, Detroit Officer Jennifer Moreno said. The children were inside a plastic bag in the freezer, but Moreno said it is unclear how long they were located there. She also declined to comment if the bodies had been dismembered. Read more...

The Connecticut home of the man who carried out the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary school has been demolished, Newtown officials said. The 2-acre lot where the 3,100-square-foot house once stood in a leafy, suburban neighborhood will be left as open space under a plan approved by town officials. A Maine man wanted by the cops took to Snapchat to announce he was going back to his home in Fairfield. Which prompted a round of calls to the Somerset County Sheriff's office telling authorities about the social media notes from fugitive Christopher Wallace. Deputies then surrounded the house, which prompted a second text from Wallace, saying he was hiding in a cabinet. Case solved. 6 Arrested in WalMart Brawl

An Idaho man and two juveniles are among six suspects arrested after a late-night brawl in north-central Arizona left one person dead and two others with gunshot wounds, including a police officer. The name of the person killed wasn't released, but Arizona Department of Public Safety officials said 29-year-old Jeramiah Gaver of Boise was being held on suspicion of aggravated assault. Authorities said a Walmart employee suffered a sprained arm and cuts and other police officers had minor injuries in the melee in the store's parking lot in Cottonwood some 100 miles north of Phoenix. Teacher Busted 3 Times for Drugs

A Pennsylvania teacher's downward spiral took another twist with his third arrest in the month of March. Brian Minick, 39, was parked in the middle of an intersection when Mount Pleasant cops spotted him huffing from an aerosol can. The disgraced fifth-grade teacher had to be pulled out of his pickup truck, and officers confiscated a 10-ounce can of Ultra Duster canned air, authorities said. Read more...

A 49-year-old woman in Alabama has been convicted of killing her 9-year-old granddaughter by running the child to death. Jurors took about four hours Friday to convict Joyce Hardin Garrard of murder. She could face the death penalty. She was emotionless as the verdict was read. Relatives erupted in sobs. Garrard forced Savannah Hardin to run and pick up sticks for hours as penance for lying, prosecutors said. She made the girl run even though Savannah vomited and begged for relief. Read more...

Suspect Admits Destroying Bodies

Search warrants released at a press conference held by Sheriff Van Duncan Friday afternoon reveal murder suspect Robert Jason Owens, 36, admitted storing and destroying the bodies of two victims, a husband and wife from Leicester, N.C. The warrants also show the bodies were at Owens' home. Warrants allege Owens admitted hitting J.T. Codd with a pickup truck. There was no indication of how Cristie Codd was killed. Read more...

The father of a missing teenage daughter has been arrested for allegedly breaking into a home while conducting his own investigation. Wesley Hadsell, 36, was arrested and transported to the Norfolk City Jail, according to the Norfolk Sheriff's Office. He is being held without bail on four counts of obstruction of justice and resisting arrest by threat of force, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon and breaking and entering. Read more...

Gunman Kills House Guest

An Alabama man knew his shooting victim much more than he wanted to admit, police said. Cody Allen Pike, 30, was charged with murder after he allegedly killed Ryan Alexander (Alex) Moore in his Hoover condominium. Pike called 911 and told authorities he killed an "unknown intruder" who was burglarizing his home and had attacked him. But by the afternoon, Hoover cops learned that the two were friends and co-workers and that Moore had often stayed at Pike's home so they could carpool to work. Read more...

A Jacksonville businessman who was reported dead in Venezuela two years ago was arrested in North Carolina on federal charges that moved a twisting parlor game of high-stakes fraud claims from the courthouse to the jailhouse. Jose Lantigua, 62, former owner of Circle K Furniture, was jailed without bond in Buncombe County, N.C., which includes Asheville in the western part of the state, according to an inmate database the jail there maintains. They took his clothes, and then they took his cars. Armed suspects confronted a Florida man in his garage, forced him to strip naked and locked him in his laundry room, authorities said. Remains of Alaska Family Found

Human remains found along an Alaska trail may be connected to the disappearance of a family of four missing since May, Kenai Police said. The family's disappearance prompted massive searches led by Kenai police with help from the FBI. The searches turned up no clues. Sharper Gets Deal on Rape Charges

Former NFL star Darren Sharper has cut a plea agreement with authorities in four states and the federal government on charges that he drugged and raped women across the country during a four-month period from September 2013 through January 2014. Authorities in Louisiana, Nevada, Arizona and California charged Sharper with rape while the federal charges included distributing a controlled substance "with the intent to commit a crime of violence which is rape." Suge Knight Collapses in Court

Former rap music mogul Marion "Suge" Knight's collapsed in a courtroom shortly after a judge ordered him held on $25 million bail in a January hit-and-run murder case which in killed one man and injured another. Knight's attorney Matthew Fletcher said his client, who is diabetic and has a blood clot, told him that he hadn't received any medication. Prosecutors revealed several pieces of evidence they plan to present in the Aurora theater shooting trial this week during jury selection. Attorneys for the prosecution announced Wednesday they plan on using several large exhibits of evidence, including a 5Χ7-foot replica model of the theater, which will require pre-planning to set up in the courtroom, several of the actual seats from inside the theater and pieces of drywall showing bullet holes and projectiles. Missing Man Found Hanging From Tree

Federal authorities are investigating the discovery of a missing African-American man who was found hanging from a tree in Mississippi during a ground search. The remains were discovered in woods a half-mile from the man's last known residence in Claiborne County, about 60 miles southwest of Jackson, FBI Supervisory Special Agent Jason Pack said. Carl Engle, 73, was robbed and beaten to death by two young men, one of whom knew the elderly man beloved by neighbors, police said. Engle's bloody and battered body was found in his St. Bernard home by police officer responding to a neighbor's call about possible trespassers. Police in the village north of downtown Cincinnati arrested James Kirby, 22, Chasidy Brewer, 20, and Mario Lewis, 26. Grandson Charged With Woman's Murder

The grandson of a New Smyrna Beach woman found dead inside her own home has now been charged with her murder. Patrick Campbell was taken into custody after he turned himself in to FBI agents. New Smyrna Beach police said Campbell drove his grandmother's car to the Raymond James building in Daytona Beach, turned himself in and later came face-to-face with investigators who had been searching for both him and the car for nearly 24 hours. Police in Arizona have captured a man who allegedly killed one person and wounded five others in a shooting spree. Mesa Detective Esteban Flores told reporters that the suspect, who police identified as Ryan Elliot Giroux, 41, was captured shortly before 12:30 p.m. when a SWAT team spotted him on the balcony of a vacant condo in Mesa, a suburb of Phoenix. A home contractor has been charged with murder in the case of a missing North Carolina couple, according to the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office. Robert Jason Owens, 36, has been charged with killing Cristie Schoen Codd, 38 and her husband Joseph "JT" Codd, 45. Three Morgan State football players were stabbed on the university's campus, according Baltimore Police. The program was scheduled to commence spring practice, but a man swung a knife wildly at several players, slashing one in the chest, one in a cheek and another in the arm. The three injured players were taken to a hospital and a suspect was taken into custody. A teen hulk who beat his mother to death with a frying pan and hammer was sentenced to 20 years in prison in Arizona. Michael Helms, who turned 18 the same day he was sentenced, pleaded guilty in February to slaying his mother, Tina Helms Spencer, and beating his stepfather. Teen Charged in Mom's Death

Police say a man is charged with stabbing a Lehigh County woman to death and the victim's daughter is also facing charges in connection to the crime. 20-year-old Caleb Barnes of Fort Meade, Maryland, is charged with criminal homicide, abuse of a corpse and statutory sexual assault. Authorities say police found a parked vehicle in South Whitehall Township with a large pool of blood inside. Texas Inmate Gets Reprieve

An East Texas man set for execution this week for a shootout eight years ago that left two sheriff's officers dead has won a reprieve from the state's highest criminal appeals court. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals stopped the scheduled execution of 55-year-old Randall Wayne Mays. The ruling means Mays will not be executed Wednesday evening for the fatal shootings at his home in Henderson County. Human remains found on a hillside in Utah last month have been identified as a woman missing for 32 years. Theresa Rose Greaves was 23 disappeared on Aug. 5, 1983. Originally from New Jersey, the young woman had been living with roommates in Woods Cross, Utah, for five years when she vanished after boarding a bus for a job interview in Salt Lake City. Convicted murderer Jodi Arias will have to go without phone calls and video chats in jail for now unless they have to do with legal matters, the Maricopa County sheriff said. Sheriff Joe Arpaio said that Arias violated several rules, and the jail will enforce disciplinary restrictions for six weeks. According to Arpaio, there was evidence that Arias was trying to avoid having conversations monitored by using other inmates to make phone calls for her. A knife-wielding teenage girl is being sought by police for attacking a 17-year-old woman on a Brooklyn subway train, police said. Missing Man's Remains Found in Park

The remains of a Little Rock construction executive who went missing in 2008 have been found in Petit Jean State Park. Conway County Sheriff Mike Smith confirmed that hikers found a skull on about 150 yards off Red Bluff Drive in the park. A Colorado sheriff's deputy and a state wildlife officer were held hostage by a man and a woman before a struggle erupted and the man was fatally shot, authorities said. Neither the deputy nor the wildlife officer was injured in the confrontation near the small town of Dinosaur in northwestern Colorado, about 10 miles from the Utah border. Allman Movie Director Pleads Guilty

The director of a movie about musician Gregg Allman pleaded guilty in a train crash that killed a camera assistant and injured six film workers, and prosecutors in exchange dropped charges against his wife and business partner. As part of the plea deal, Director Randall Miller will spend two years in the county jail and another eight on probation on involuntary manslaughter and criminal trespassing charges. 71-Year-Old Attacked Over Parking Spot

A 71-year-old Wisconsin woman was seriously injured after she brawled with a younger woman over a handicapped parking spot and ended up getting chest bumped to the ground, police said. The fight outside a Walmart in Greenfield started when customer Kezia Perkins (pictured), 32, tried pulling into a prime parking spot near the store's entrance — but couldn't make the sharp turn quick enough. Woman Steals Her Own Dogs

An Oregon woman was jailed for breaking into an animal shelter and stealing her own dogs, authorities said. Jennifer Dompier, 41, of Merlin, cut the locks at Josephine County Animal Shelter and snatched the two pit bull mixes during a late night canine heist, authorities said. The county had impounded the two pooches in December after Dompier was accused of neglecting her pets. Read more...

First Date Steals Woman's Car

Police have captured the man who stole his date's car before he even had the chance to steal her heart. Gerald Tietz, who allegedly drove off with a red 2007 Toyota Solara with the license plate "Jsrygrl" that belonged to a woman he met for Feb. 26 date in Atco, N.J., was arrested after residents found the vehicle in nearby Cherry Hill, Waterford police said. Jets Chris Johnson Wounded in Shooting

New York Jets running back Chris Johnson and another passenger were shot in their shoulders while stopped at a traffic light in Orlando, and the driver of the vehicle they were in was killed. The NFL player and the other passenger, Reggie Johnson, were in stable condition at a hospital Sunday. A person close to Johnson confirmed it was the running back who was involved. Read more...

A Philadelphia police officer was shot dead during a wild gun battle with robbers. Officer Robert Wilson III interrupted the heist at a GameStop on the north end of the city, and the would-be stickup men unloaded on the 8-year veteran. Michael Brown's Parents to Sue

Lawyers for the parents of an unarmed, black 18-year-old who was fatally shot by a white police officer in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson said that they would file a civil lawsuit in Michael Brown's death. Attorney Daryl Parks said at a news conference in north St. Louis County that the City of Ferguson and former Officer Darren Wilson would be named in the wrongful death lawsuit, which they plan to file promptly. Sisters' Murder Charges Dropped

A 15-year-old north Florida girl who authorities say fatally shot her 16-year-old brother after years of abuse has pleaded no contest to felony burglary and will receive probation. Third Circuit State Attorney Jeff Siegmeister said that the girl will not face a murder charge. The girl and her 11-year-old sister were arrested on suspicion of murder after the Jan. 5 shooting. Texting Leads to Fatal Crash

A Wisconsin mother was sending messages on her cell phone minutes before a horrific crash killed her daughter and two nieces, authorities said. Kari Milberg's phone records show she was carrying on a Facebook chat while driving the little girls and her young son home from a playdate at an indoor playground in December 2013. Husband Guilty of Deadly Crash

The husband of a Georgia bride who died in a drunken driving crash after her wedding has pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide. Ryan Quinton, 29, of Jasper, entered his plea this week to the death of his wife, Kali Dobson, the night of Dec. 30, 2013. The 25-year-old woman died just hours after tying the knot with Quinton, who drove their Pontiac Firebird off the road shortly after departing the wedding's reception. Boston Bomber Trials Begins

The accused Boston Marathon bomber had "murder in his heart" when he placed a backpack containing a shrapnel-packed pressure cooker bomb near a clutch of kids at the finish line. "He pretended to be a spectator, but he had murder in his heart," Assistant U.S. Attorney William Weinreb charged. "He believed he was a soldier in a holy war against Americans." Darren Wilson Cleared by DOJ

The Justice Department says it won't prosecute former Ferguson, Missouri, police officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of an unarmed black 18-year-old that led to weeks of protests. Federal officials concluded there was no evidence to disprove Wilson's testimony that he feared for his safety, nor was there reliable evidence that Michael Brown had his hands up when he was shot. Duty Belt Saves Florida Cop

A Florida cop survived a potentially deadly gun blast to the stomach when his duty belt repelled an unhinged gunman's bullet, authorities said. "Thank God his duty belt stopped that round from entering into his body," Lake Wales Police Chief Chris Velasquez said. "It actually entered into the belt and was caught right behind it in another belt that he was wearing." A gunman ambushed cops and killed a veteran detective during a door-to-door shooting spree in an Atlanta-area suburb, police said. Det. Terence Avery Green, a 22-year veteran Fulton County officer, died in a shootout with the suspect. Teen Gets 6 Years for Stabbing

The Illinois teenager who admitted to stabbing her little half-sister to death because she felt unappreciated will stay in a juvenile facility until her 21st birthday. A parole board could release the 15-year-old — who pleaded guilty to murder in January — a year early after she serves five of the six years. Remains of Missing Teen Found

The remains of a Colorado teen missing since December have been found. The Mesa County Sheriff's Office says the remains of 18-year-old Kelly Mae Myers, of Grand Junction, were recovered in Cactus Park - a recreation area south of Grand Junction on the Uncompahgre Plateau. Investigators say her death is suspicious. Myers' mother, Kim Lee, told reporters in January that her daughter had been involved with drugs in the past and that there was a warrant for her arrest for failing to appear in court when she disappeared. Vegas Apartment Shooting Leaves 2 Dead

Las Vegas police say two people died and two others were hospitalized in an apparent homicide at an apartment complex. Cops say the shots rang out at 10:19 p.m. at the Broadstone Talavera Apartments at 2251 South Fort Apache Rd. Arias Jury at Impasse

A lawyer for Jodi Arias says jurors at her sentencing retrial are at an impasse over whether to send the convicted murderer to life in prison or to death for the 2008 killing of her lover, Travis Alexander. Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Sherry Stephens denied a request by Arias' attorneys for a mistrial and instead read additional jury instructions and told the panel to resume deliberations. Judge Tosses Teen's Confession

A Massachusetts judge has ruled that a teenager's confession to police that he killed his math teacher cannot be used in his murder trial. Judge David Lowy's ruling came in the case of 16-year-old Philip Chism. He has pleaded not guilty to killing and raping 24-year-old Colleen Ritzer on school grounds in October 2013. Jury Seated for Boston Bombing Trial

Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is set to go on trial Wednesday after federal jury was seated to hear evidence in the deadly terrorist attack that shocked the world. A jury of 10 women and eight men includes a house painter, an U.S. Coast Guard traffic controller, a retired actuary and a recently fired auditor. Men Charged in Home Invasion

The last of eight men accused in a Feb. 20 home invasion in the town of Mosinee were charged in Marathon County court in connection with the incident. Jared Salawater, 21, of Schofield was charged with armed burglary, burglary of a dwelling, boat or motor home, two counts of armed robbery with threat of force, two counts of false imprisonment, two counts of misdemeanor bail jumping and one count of resisting or obstructing an officer, according to court records. Man Charged in Drug-Induced Homicide of Toddler

A North Lawndale man was ordered held in lieu of $350,000 bond on charges of endangering the life of a 2-year-old boy who died from methadone poisoning while under his care. Reginal Z. Brown was babysitting Mickel Brown June 18, 2014, in his first-floor apartment when the toddler ingested the synthetic opioid, which is commonly used as a painkiller and to treat narcotic addiction, authorities said. Georgia Woman's Execution Delayed

The only woman on Georgia's death row got another reprieve Monday night as state prison officials said there was a problem with "cloudy" injection drugs. Kelly Gissendaner, 46, was supposed to be put to death by lethal injection last week for the 1997 murder of her husband. But bad weather forced the execution to be delayed. The latest postponement came thanks to legal wrangling by her attorney as the U.S. Supreme Court reviewed last-minute arguments seeking a stay coupled with a problem with the lethal execution cocktail. Justice Rees' Mom Charged With Murder

The mother of Justice Rees, a 20-day-old baby found dead in a northern California swamp last week, was charged Saturday morning with the boy's death, despite her initial claim that two of them had been kidnapped and attacked. Meanwhile, the baby's father was arrested on Sunday on unrelated misdemeanor charges and is being held on $120,000 bail. Robbers Steal $4.8 Million in Gold

Armed men stole $4.8 million in gold bars from an armored truck that broke down on the side of a North Carolina highway, authorities said. The daring robbers reportedly overwhelmed three security guards on Sunday evening, binding their hands behind their backs before they marched them into the woods and made off with two barrels of gleaming bullion. According to the FBI, the "Black Hat Bandits" robbed another Virginia bank. The robbery took place at the Wells Fargo branch located at W. Broad Street in Falls Church. This marks the eighth robbery committed by the Black Hat Bandits since January. Prosecutors say they will seek the death penalty against a man charged with murdering three Muslim students in their North Carolina home last month. Lacey Spears Guilty of Son's Murder

A mommy blogger who chronicled her boy's many illnesses was convicted of murder Monday for poisoning the 5-year-old with high levels of salt. A New York jury found Lacey Spears guilty of the top count in the death of little Garnett Spears, buying into prosecutors' contention the mother was hungry for attention and later became concerned the sickly son would tell on her. It was "nothing short of torture," for Spears, 27, to force-feed the boy with high concentrations of sodium, assistant district attorney Patricia Murphy told the White Plains jury. Read more...

Defense attorneys and prosecutors have both filled motions in Waukesha County on whether two girls who stabbed their friend in the Slender Man stabbing case should be tried in adult or juvenile court. Cops in Los Angeles fatally shot a homeless man they scuffled with in broad daylight in downtown L.A.'s Skid Row, according to a disturbing video of the incident that a bystander later posted to social media. Several cops struggled with a man, whose name hasn't been released, in a pile of tents and sleeping materials on the 540 block of South San Pedro St. in the footage (with extremely graphic language) that the witness uploaded to Facebook. Texts and phone records shown to jurors Friday in the murder trial of former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez showed that several messages he exchanged with a co-defendant before the killing were deleted from his phone. Evidence presented to the jury Friday also showed multiple calls placed from the phone of co-defendant Ernest Wallace to the victim, Odin Lloyd, in the hours before he was killed, including the same minute that Lloyd was seen getting into a car outside his home about an hour before he died early on June 17, 2013. Alabama Girl, 14, Dies in Shooting

A 14-year-old Alabama girl was killed after two men fired into a group of girls who decided to have a brawl over an argument they had on Facebook. Birmingham police have arrested two male suspects, ages 17 and 19, who fired into the crowded group of girls who were fighting in the street. The gunfire killed Kierra'onna Rice and two other victims were transported to the hospital. Read more...

Police Chief Fired After Prostitution Arrest

A South Florida police chief is out of a job after being accused of soliciting a prostitute who turned out to be an undercover deputy. Miami Gardens Police Chief Stephen Johnson was arrested in Dania Beach. He bonded out hours later and had some words for the public. "I want to apologize to the community, and I want to apologize to my elected officials," said Johnson. "Tonight was a very unfortunate situation for me dealing with an incident that occurred today.
