Man Throws Mother Off Bridge

Authorities say Martin Montano, a New Mexico man, beat up two people and threw one of the victims from a bridge into the Rio Grande. The station also said that one of the victims was the suspect's mother, according to police. Montano's neighbors called 911 to report the crime when they heard screams and saw a person putting bodies into the trunk of a car. Read more...

Couple Stabbed by Longtime Friend

Jamie Kirk Hahn, 29, was being treated at WakeMed in Raleigh for what authorities say were serious injuries from the Monday evening attack at their Releigh home. Her husband, Nation Richard Hahn, 27, was treated and later released. Police have charged Jonathan Wayne Broyhill, 31, with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He was also at WakeMed Tuesday recovering from injuries. Read more...

Lions Safety Amari Spievey Arrested

Detroit Lions safety Amari Spievey was arrested in Middletown, Conn., Tuesday after a dispute with his girlfriend about child support, police said. Spievey, 24, was charged with third-degree assault, risk of injury to a child and disorderly conduct. His girlfriend, 26-year-old Lisamarie Santos, was also charged with risk of injury and disorderly conduct for her alleged involvement in the domestic dispute. Read more...

Husband Twice Tried to Hire 'Hit Man'

An Arizona millionaire is being held on multiple charges after he allegedly attempted to hire a hit man to murder his wife, then tried it again while he was in custody awaiting trial on the first charge, according to police. Fred Knadler, 75, was indicted on two additional counts of conspiracy to commit murder after he was "actively soliciting people while in custody" to murder his wife and former employee Patrick King, according to Sergeant Steve Martos of Phoenix Police Department. Knadler was first arrested in January, 2012, after he tried to hire King, an employee of his bathroom door company, to murder his wife, Libia Knadler, 66, police allege. Read more...

Man Arrested in Meat Cleaver Attack

A husband hacked his wife with a meat cleaver on a bustling Chinatown street before firefighters tackled him, police said. Ming Guang Huang, 28, was hospitalized for a psychiatric evaluation after being arrested on attempted murder and other charges, police said. The attack unfolded before witnesses and surveillance cameras on Chinatown's main thoroughfare, authorities said. Firefighters getting their trucks ready for their shifts Sunday heard screams across the street from the firehouse and sprang into action to stop the bloody assault, authorities and witnesses said. Woman Charged With Stabbing Cousin's Cat

Bond was set at $75,000 for a woman charged with a felony count of animal cruelty after allegedly stabbing her cousin's cat to death after a fight in the South Side home they shared. Tish Coleman was allegedly involved in a domestic disturbance in her home. The incident was a verbal dispute that turned physical, Kubiak said. Read more...

CBS News Anchor Rob Morrison Arrested

CBS 2 News anchor Rob Morrison violently choked his wife during a fight at their suburban Connecticut home, then continued to threaten her after he was arrested, police said. Darien cops said they responded to Morrison's Hollow Tree Ridge Road home after they received a call from his wife's mother reporting a domestic incident there. "Upon arrival, it was ascertained that Morrison had been becoming increasingly belligerent toward his wife during the course of the evening, culminating in his choking her by the neck with both hands," a police press release said. Man Charged With Kidnapping Ex-Girlfriend

A Chicago man was ordered held in lieu of $200,000 after he allegedly robbed, assaulted and kidnapped his former girlfriend on her way to work. The woman was walking past the train station near 49th Street and Western Avenue on Feb. 6 when Hector Hernandez, 22, grabbed her jacket, pulled her to a sidewalk and asked if he could see their child, according to prosecutors. Man Assults Girlfriend in Maternity Ward

A man has admitted assaulting his girlfriend in the maternity ward of a suburban Philadelphia hospital during an argument over what to name their newborn baby. Twenty-three-year-old Richard Lavon Davis Jr. of Philadelphia pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of simple assault in connection with the January 2012 incident at Lankenau Hospital in Lower Merion. Montgomery County Judge Joseph Smyth sentenced Davis to eight to 23 months in the county jail and ordered him to complete a domestic violence counseling program. Read more...

2 Wounded in Shooting Outside Courthouse

A man involved in a paternity dispute opened fire Wednesday in front of a South Carolina courthouse, wounding a woman and her stepfather, then led police on a 12-mile chase before he was caught, a sheriff said. Suspect Curtis Gorny and 21-year-old Olivia Weaver were at the Chesterfield County courthouse for a paternity test and at about 12:30 p.m., Weaver was shot in the face and torso, said Sheriff Sam Parker. The child was not with her mother. Her stepfather, Donnie Nolan, was also wounded. The conditions of the victims were not known but Parker was taken to the hospital. Read more...

Man Accused of Setting Wife on Fire

A 59-year-old Davenport man accused of setting his wife on fire was arrested after he was released from a hospital. The Quad-City Times says Tom Kuan is charged with arson, attempted murder and domestic abuse. Court records say firefighters found Kuan lying on the floor of his residence on Dec. 5. His wife, Lyn Kuan, had escaped the house but had suffered severe burns. Read more...

Student Accused of Abusing, Kidnapping Wife

A Pennsylvania college student was arrested after police said he physically and sexually abused his wife for a year and then kidnapped her in an attempt to force her to leave the country. Police said the investigation began after the victim's friend called 911 and claimed Lirim Rufati, 24, of West Chester, had kidnapped his wife and taken her to JFK airport in New York. Read more...

Girlfriend Arrested in Man's Stabbing Death

A Houston woman has been accused in the stabbing death of her boyfriend in southwest Houston. Police arrested Ulessia Procter, 28, a short time after she allegedly stabbed Michael Black Curry, 30, during an argument that turned physical at a friend's apartment. Curry ran out of the apartment holding his neck and collapsed on the sidewalk in front of the apartment. A witness saw Procter run out of the apartment, right behind Curry, and then flee the scene on foot, according to police. Read more...

Gunman Shoots Woman, Himself at Church

A Florida church service ended in tragedy Sunday afternoon when a man shot a woman multiple times, then killed himself outside the building, authorities and witnesses said. Hundreds of congregants were exiting the sanctuary at Faith Center Church in the city of Sunrise just before 1 p.m. ET when the man began opening fire at the woman, possibly his ex-girlfriend, Sunrise police said. Even though the armed assailant shot the woman several times, she managed to drive away. The shooting victim drove around the parking lot, where others found her, police said. Read more...

Teen Shoots Father to Protect Mom

A Florida teen who fatally shot his father in a desperate bid to save his mother from being choked has not been charged, police said. The shooting happened as a group of family and friends were gathered around a bonfire outside a mobile home in Plant City, a rural area northeast of Tampa. Police said the teen's parents went into the mobile home and got into an argument that escalated when the father, identified as Christopher Thorpe, began striking his wife, Jill. Read more...

Man Arrested for Stalking Ex-Girlfriend

Biloxi police say a 28-year-old man has been arrested on charges of aggravated stalking, burglary and felony malicious mischief against his ex-girlfriend. Drake Sermos was taken to Harrison County jail and accused of breaking a no-contact order against him because of prior stalking complaints, according to Sgt. Donnie Dobbs. Police believe Sermos was stalking his ex-girlfriend in an attempt to get back together with her. Read more...

Woman Found With Throat Slashed

Authorities have arrested a 30-year-old Burlington, Wash., man hours after a woman walked out of woods south of Bellingham with her throat cut. Skagit County Undersheriff Tom Molitor says the suspect, who was in a domestic relationship with the victim, was arrested in Eastern Washington. The man will be transferred to Skagit County. The woman was rushed to a hospital in Bellingham where she is expected to recover. Read more...

Woman Convicted in Saw Attack on Husband

A Washington state woman accused of trying to decapitate her sleeping husband with an electric saw was convicted of attempted murder. Jurors needed only about three hours to reach a verdict in the trial of Renee Bishop-McKean of Everett. They also convicted the 44-year-old woman of first-degree assault for hitting the man in the head with a hatchet and mallet. The jury was told the noise of the saw woke the victim last Oct. 14 and he fought his wife off. He was treated for cuts and scrapes. Read more...

Woman Arrested Four Times in 26 Hours

A New Hampshire woman was arrested fours times within 26 hours for refusing to turn down her radio and assaulting her nephew, officials said. Joyce Coffey, 53, is facing several charges for her three arrests over her blaring rock music and another arrest for allegedly throwing a frying pan at her nephew. Read more...

Boy, 13, Attacks Mother With Hammer

Police say a 13-year-old South Texas boy has been accused of using a hammer to beat his mother. Corpus Christi police said that the child has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon-family violence. Senior Officer Julie Garcia says the boy remains in juvenile custody. His name hasn't been released. Garcia says the mother suffered head, arm and facial injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. Read more...

Chad Johnson Arrested for Domestic Violence

Chad Johnson's teammates were taking the field for practice at the Miami Dolphins' training camp just as he walked out of jail. He missed the workout, and it's unclear whether he'll be back. The six-time Pro Bowl receiver, formerly known as Chad Ochocinco, was released on $2,500 bond a day after his wife accused him of head-butting her during an argument in front of their home. Man Kept Wife in Chains for Decade

Authorities say a West Virginia man tortured his wife and kept her in chains for a decade, treating her as his slave. A criminal complaint says the 43-year-old victim was burned on her back and breasts with irons and frying pans, and her foot was smashed under farm equipment. She also allegedly delivered a stillborn child while in chains. Another infant survived. Thirty-seven-year-old Peter Lizon of Leroy was in jail on $300,000 bond Wednesday. Ohio State Coach Urban Meyer dismissed senior linebacker Storm Klein from the football team following his arrest on domestic violence and assault charges. Klein pleaded not guilty to the charges on after being arrested by Columbus police. Man Shoots Mother Five Times, Kills Self

A Pittsburgh man called 911 to report that he shot his mother and then killed himself before police arrived on the scene. The 73-year-old woman, who was shot five times, was expected to recover, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. Her 55-year-old son, Henry Sunder, called 911 and confessed to the shooting, police said. He told the dispatcher he would wait at the home they shared for officers to arrive and kill him. 'Swamp People' Star Arrested in Florida

One of the stars of the TV reality show "Swamp People" has been arrested in Florida on domestic violence charges. Noces Joseph LaFont Jr. — who is known as "Trapper Joe" on TV — was arrested Wednesday by Orange County Sheriff's deputies. According to an arrest affidavit, LaFont was arguing with his girlfriend while staying at a hotel near Disney World and tried to burn her with a lit cigarette. Woman Doused in Gas, Set on Fire

A woman was severely burned Monday after being doused in gasoline and lit on fire outside a 7-Eleven store in South Florida in a dispute with the father of her child, police said. The 34-year-old woman was waiting in her silver Mercedes at the store shortly before 3 a.m., Boynton Beach Police spokeswoman Stephanie Slater said. Woman Accused of Burning Roommate Alive

A woman was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and other felony offenses after allegedly killing her roommate by throwing gasoline on him, then setting him on fire at their apartment in Anchorage, Alaska. Police say a former Miss New Hampshire USA faces a simple assault charge stemming from a confrontation with her boyfriend. Police said that 26-year-old Nicole Houde was arrested after the Manchester beauty queen punched, kicked, scratched and bit 33-year-old Scott Nickerson, also of Manchester. A Missouri teenager accused of pouring gasoline on a 13-year-old and setting the child on fire has been charged with first-degree assault. Seventeen-year-old Joseph D. Lane Garrison Arrested for Domestic Violence

Actor Lane Garrison was arrested for felony domestic violence. The incident occurred at the Beverly Hills apartment of Garrison's girlfriend Ashley Mattingly. Mattingly said the problems started when she and Garrison went to the Playboy Mansion and the former "Prison Break" star drank too much and began "hovering over Hef." Officer Arrested After Assaulting Fiancee

A rookie NYPD cop was arrested in Queens for assaulting his fiancée, officials said. Off-duty Officer Alexandru Baiasu, 27, was arrested at his Rego Park home after attacking his 31-year-old fiancée during an argument, cops said. Baiasu, who was newly assigned to the Police Academy, was charged with assault and harassment, officials said. Read more...

Man Arrested for Trying to Burn Ex-Girlfriend

Cedar Rapids police have arrested a man who they say tried to light his ex-girlfriend on fire. The victim told dispatchers a man had sprayed a flammable liquid on her and tried to light her on fire. Sgt. Joe Clark said that the woman's coat caught fire, but she was able to remove it before suffering any serious injury. Details about her condition were not immediately released. Read more...

Man Gets 26-Year Jail Term for Stalking

In what prosecutors called the longest sentence for stalking in memory, a Seattle-area man was given a 26 1/2-year prison term for waging a 17-year campaign of harassment against a former classmate he met in middle school, and instilling fear in her. Shawn Moul, 31, passively accepted the sentence from King County Superior Court Judge Patrick Oishi on Tuesday, some six months after being convicted on two felony counts of stalking and 19 counts of violating anti-harassment orders. Man Gets 200 Years for Setting Girlfriend on Fire

A Georgia man who poured gasoline over his girlfriend and set her on fire was sentenced to more than 200 years in prison. A jury found Orville Brooks, 30, guilty of the attack on Tara Best in the couple's apartment a year ago. He was convicted on eight counts, including false imprisonment and criminal intent to commit murder, before Clayton County Judge Geronda Carter sentenced Brooks to 205 years in jail. Read more...
