Slain Husband Buried in Manure

A western New York woman was arrested for killing her husband of 30 years after state police found his body buried in a manure pile on his farm, police said. Charlene Mess, 48, was charged with second-degree murder, just hours after authorities unearthed her husband, Douglas Mess, Officer Victor Morales told the Daily News. Douglas Mess' son reported the 52-year-old Wyoming County man missing Sunday night after he did not report to work, state police said. Read more...

Husband Sought in Beating Death

A murder warrant has been issued for the husband of a Dunkin' Donuts worker found beaten to death at a Maryland store. When a customer walked into an empty Dunkin' Donuts/Baskin-Robbins, across from a high-trafficked casino and mall in Hanover, Md., the shop was empty at 10:51 p.m. and the customer called 911. A responding officer found 21-year-old Palak Patel lying dead in the kitchen, Anne Arundel County Police said. Mom Leaves Quadriplegic Son in Woods

A Philadelphia mom is in custody at a Maryland hospital after she allegedly ditched her disabled son in a wooded area inside a local park before skipping town to visit her boyfriend. A passerby in Cobbs Creek Park discovered the 21-year-old man, a nonverbal quadriplegic who also has cerebral palsy, lying near an empty wheelchair with a Bible on his chest after he was abandoned for five days without any provisions. Cops Beat Pregnant Woman

A Texas woman alleges she was punched and beaten, while nine months pregnant, by Hunt County Sheriff's deputies. Deanna Robinson, 38, said she was handcuffed when a deputy repeatedly punched her in the back as he and a colleague shoved her against a countertop, causing extensive pain and bruising, she said. Suspects Rams 2 Police Cars

A man who allegedly fled the scene after hospitalizing a woman in a domestic violence incident rammed through two police cruisers before the California Highway Patrol captured him. Jose Manuel Jara, 40, left a home in La Palma in northern Orange County before La Palma police officers arrived to investigate the report of domestic abuse at roughly 9:20 p.m. . A New Jersey man attacked his wife with a machete because she made him wait for dinner while she poured water for the family pet, authorities said. Mercer County prosecutors allege the enraged husband also fired a fish tank figurine at the woman during the drunken tantrum. Gunman Kills House Guest

An Alabama man knew his shooting victim much more than he wanted to admit, police said. Cody Allen Pike, 30, was charged with murder after he allegedly killed Ryan Alexander (Alex) Moore in his Hoover condominium. Pike called 911 and told authorities he killed an "unknown intruder" who was burglarizing his home and had attacked him. But by the afternoon, Hoover cops learned that the two were friends and co-workers and that Moore had often stayed at Pike's home so they could carpool to work. Read more...

Slipknot guitarist Mick Thomson was stabbed in the back of his head during an apparent knife fight with his own brother outside the musician's home in Clive, Iowa, local police said. Bruce Miller, a San Francisco 49ers fullback, was arrested by Santa Clara police on suspicion of domestic battery, authorities said. Miller, 27, was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor battery of a spouse or cohabitant, according to the Santa Clara police log. Santa Clara police Lt. Boy Hired Classmate to Murder Family

A Florida 14-year-old was busted on charges of soliciting murder after the boy "hired" a classmate to murder his entire family and stage it as a burglary gone wrong, police say. The teen is sitting in juvenile detention after his arrest in Port St. Lucie for writing out a contract, signed by a friend, ordering the murders of his dad, stepmom and older stepbrother for $1,200, according to cops. Father Stabs Gender-Confused Son

Kevin Golec, a 52-year-old eastern Ohio man, has been charged with murder after allegedly being caught in a lie. He is accused of stabbing his son to death. Golec reportedly called 911 Friday night and told dispatchers that he and his 22-year-old son, Brian, were just attacked in their Akron home. But according to Akron police, Kevin Golec was actually the attacker, and he stabbed Brian after the two got into an argument, reports the station. Read more...

Pastor's Son Charged in Family Murders

The son of a Texas Episcopal pastor was arrested and charged with the grisly killings of his dad, his mother and his 5-year-old brother, authorities said. Isaac Tiharihondi,19, was arrested by FBI agents at 2:30 a.m. in a Mississippi motel. He had been sought by police since yesterday, when the bloodied bodies of his father, Israel Ahimbisibwe, his wife, Dorcus, and their young boy Israel Jr., were discovered inside their Houston-area apartment. 2 Arizona Law Officers Wounded

Two Arizona law enforcement officers are hospitalized after a shootout with a domestic violence suspect in a small town near the New Mexico border. Authorities say the suspect — 29-year-old Chris Ingram — later died of his wounds at a Morenci hospital. They say Greenlee County sheriff's deputy Jon Mennen and Clifton police Sgt. Man Runs Down Pregnant Lover

A Florida man rammed his pregnant girlfriend with his car, then bolted, leaving her at the scene, authorities said. Crystal Noordhuizen, 32, had just crossed the street and stepped onto a grassy shoulder when a White Dodge Charger vroomed into view, striking the woman before plowing into a post, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Wisconsin Man Stabs Four, 2 Dead

A father fatally stabbed two people, including his 5-month-old daughter in her crib, and wounded two other people in an attack at a Milwaukee duplex, the city's police chief said. The baby's 19-year-old mother and her new boyfriend, 22, were rushed to a Milwaukee area hospital where the woman underwent surgery, according to Police Chief Edward Flynn. Middleweight boxing champion Jermain Taylor was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault and other charges after he allegedly threatened to kill a family in Little Rock, Ark., police said. Taylor threatened a family of five at gunpoint during a Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade. A Tallahassee woman was arrested on a premeditated murder charge in the stabbing death of her ex-husband while he slept in his Crawfordville home. An Ohio mother attacked her teenage son with a knife after an argument about pork chops, cops say. Yolanda Veasley, 57, allegedly became angry when she found that three of four packaged pork chop meals were missing and her son lied about them. The grandson of a 71-year-old man beaten to death in his home is charged with lying to police about where he was at the time of the murder. The Muskegon County Prosecutor's Office charged Trent Michael Humphreys-McPherson, 25, of Muskegon with a felony of lying to a peace officer. Daughter Arrested for Mom's Murder

A woman has been charged with killing her own mother in Durham. The Durham County Sheriff's Office said the shooting happened at the JT Tire Shop in the 2200-block of Geer Street. Detectives found 62-year-old 's body inside the building. She died from an apparent gunshot wound. Turner's daughter, 38-year-old Rebekah Maxwell, is charged with first-degree murder. Read more... Husband Admits Attempted Murder

A Connecticut man has pleaded guilty to attempted murder in a baseball attack against his wife in their Greenwich mansion in September 2013. Michael DeMaio, 56, entered his plea in Stamford Superior Court as part of a deal with prosecutors that would allow him to face a maximum of 10 years in jail when he is sentenced in March. Teen Tries to Stop Murder-Suicide

Investigators say the teenage daughter of the suspect who shot and killed his longtime girlfriend and her cousin tried to wrestle the gun from her father, thinking she was about to become his next victim. Instead, 36-year-old Eduardo Felix Escobar pulled the gun from his daughter's grip and shot himself. He died at a hospital later. Sisters Charged in Brother's Death

A 15-year-old girl and her 11-year-old sister have been arrested in Florida and charged with the murder of their 16-year-old brother, authorities said. The Columbia County Sheriff's Office said that Misty "Ariel" Kornegay, 15, grabbed a handgun from her parents' bedroom and fatally shot her brother, 16, sometime before 10 p.m. Monday in the living room of their home, and that Ariel's sister, 11-year-old Nicole Kornegay, helped in the crime. Southern California authorities are looking for a man they say poured gasoline on his wife and set her on fire. The Ventura County Sheriff's Office says 31-year-old Juan Soria Hernandez is wanted for investigation of attempted murder. Authorities say a 29-year-old woman call 911 and reported that her husband had attacked her. Deputies found the woman at a home in the Moorpark area. Read more...

Former Washington Redskins defensive back Fred Smoot has been acquitted of misdemeanor domestic assault following a bench trial in Virginia. Smoot testified in his own defense in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. A 70-year-old hedge fund founder has been shot dead in his Manhattan apartment. Police say Thomas Gilbert was shot in the head in his apartment on Beekman Place on the East Side. Woman Charged With Stabbing Grandma

The granddaughter of a woman found dying in her front yard has been charged with stabbing her to death, Maryland State Police said. Hestina Harris, 19, of Jefferson was arrested at a relative's home and charged with first-degree murder in the death of her grandmother, Lillie Morris. Troopers found Lillie Morris, 67, after getting a 911 call about someone lying in a front yard in Frederick County. Morris died while being rushed to the hospital. Read more...

Authorities have arrested a 19-year-old woman in connection with the death of a 5-year-old boy who police say was falsely reported to have been abducted from a home in upstate New York. Tiffany Van Alstyne is charged in the death of Kenneth White, who authorities say was strangled and also suffered blunt force trauma to the head. The accused is a cousin of the victim. Authorities say an 11-month-old boy whose mother was found dead in a refrigerator at her Houston apartment has been found safe in Mexico with his father, who was taken into custody as a suspect in the woman's killing. An Amber Alert was cancelled by the Houston Police Department, which says 38-year-old Patrick Lambert and the child, Achilles Lambert, are awaiting return to the United States. Police say a popular Atlanta disc jockey hired a hit man to kill his wife. Andre Pugh, aka "DJ Awesome," was has been arrested. The Fulton County medical examiner confirmed that his wife, Tiffany Pugh, was shot to death in her East Point, Ga., home. Police said the victim suffered two gunshot wounds during the Nov. 23 attack. The body of a 28-year-old Nebraska mother of two, who has been missing since Thanksgiving Day, has been found in a northeast Lincoln storage unit and her husband will be charged with her murder, police said. Woman Found With Arrows in Head

A Florida man told police he shot his mother with a gun and a bow-and-arrow and then stabbed her because he claimed she "stole his diamonds and also gave his father cancer," authorities said. The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office received a call reporting a man knocking over Christmas decorations and yelling at another person. San Diego Son Shoots Parents

A San Diego doctor and his wife were fatally shot in their home by their 22-year-old son, who was arrested after he tried to slip past police tape near the scene, police said. David Ellis Haynes, 61, and his wife, Lissa Danielle Haynes, 62, were shot multiple times in their Sunset Cliffs home, but the doctor was able to call 911. 'Cursed' Woman Stabs Boyfriend

A woman allegedly stabbed her ex-boyfriend to death because she believed he "put a curse on her." Amanda Lopez, 26, told police investigators that she had thought about killing Larry Lee Fryar for over a year. She told police that Fryar had "done something to her" and that the only way to free herself from the supposed curse was to kill him. Fryar called 911 after being stabbed Sunday. A babysitter was found dead in a Houston apartment and the infant she was babysitting was found unhurt nearby. Police say Ciara Brown, 28, was shot and killed by a man named Anndrae Gilbert, 45, who was charged with murder. Police have not described Gilbert's relationship to the victim. A West Texas man has been charged with arson after being accused of setting fire to a home where his wife was inside. The Odessa American reports the woman, who was not identified, suffered non-life threatening burn injuries in the blaze. Odessa police spokesman Cpl. A Utah woman stabbed her girlfriend to death during an argument while driving home, authorities said. Victoria Ashley Mendoza, 22, and victim Tawnee Maria Baird, 21, were on their way back to Holladay from Ogden when they pulled into a parking lot mid-fight, according to local media. Authorities say a Terre Haute, Ind. man married for less than a day fatally shot his bride before killing himself. Vigo County Chief Deputy Sheriff Clark Cottom says deputies responding to a frantic 911 call for help from a woman found 50-year-old Kelly Samson shot several times in the torso and head with a 40-caliber semi-automatic pistol. A Montana man assaulted four women in five instances over the past six months, causing injuries that required medical care and left one woman hospitalized for six days with a brain injury and a collapsed lung, prosecutors said. Caddo Parish sheriff's deputies are investigating a shooting involving two brothers. Sheriff Steve Prator says deputies and Vivian police responded to a call at the Monterey Hills Apartments. Officers found 28-year-old LaMichael Watson suffering from a wound to the abdomen. Det. Authorities in Bartlesville, Okla. say a man has been arrested for the deaths of his wife and stepson. Police Capt. Marist Grad Charged in Mother's Murder

Murder charges have been filed against a Marist College graduate who allegedly stabbed and beat his mother to death. Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli said bail was set at $2 million for 24-year-old Nicholas Piotti of Ho-Ho-Kus, who was taken into custody and was then taken to a hospital. Deputy Shoots Sword-Wielding Man

A sword-wielding suspect was shot and killed by a Manatee County, Fla. sheriff's deputy. Deputies were called out to a convenience store in Bradenton, Fla., where a woman said she was the victim in a domestic violence incident involving her 31-year-old son, Terry Sellars Jr. Investigators went to the victim's home to arrest Sellars, who allegedly came out of the residence waving a samurai sword. Boyfriend Charged in House Fire Deaths

A man suspected of killing his Columbus, Ga. girlfriend and her baby, whose bodies were found last week in the wreckage of a house fire, has turned himself in to police. Brandon Conner, 35, was arrested Tuesday night after police named him a suspect in the death of Rosella Mitchell and her 6-month-old son Dylan Conner. Mitchell, whose death was ruled a homicide, is believed to have had life threatening stab wounds before the fire. Read more...

Police Couple Shoot Daughter's Boyfriend

Two Tulsa police officers who are married have been arrested in the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man who was walking with their daughter, authorities said. Jeremy Lake was found shot to death on a street near downtown. Shannon Kepler, 54, was arrested on a complaint of first-degree murder and Gina Kepler, 48, was arrested on a complaint of accessory to murder after the fact. Man Kills Wife, 6-Year-Old

Police have arrested a 24-year-old man after finding the bodies of his wife and her 6-year-old daughter in their shared northern Idaho apartment. A police report states the suspect told a friend he "had to kill" the young girl. Angel Albertico Morales-Larranaga, of Post Falls, was taken into custody and is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Facunda Velenzuelaleon, 24, and Dayana M. Valencia, 6. 6 Dead in Houston-Area Shooting

Six people, four of them children, were shot dead and and a teenage girl was wounded Wednesday in a suburban Houston home. The suspected shooter surrendered after a three-hour standoff with police. Harris County deputies responding to a report of a shooting at about 6 p.m. found the victims in a home in the Enchanted Oaks subdivision in Spring, north of Houston. Deputies said two adults and three children were dead at the scene. Another child was taken to a hospital but died there, authorities said. Grandfather Arrested in Double Murder

A 6-year-old boy's slumber party ended in tragedy after his grandfather allegedly shot dead his mother and another man inside their Ohio home — making the child a reported witness to his mother's murder. Several children were inside the Cincinnati-area home when gunshots rang out, killing 29-year-old Lacey L. Rutherford, police said. The boy's grandfather, Alfred I. Woman Drags Boyfriend With Car

A Nashville woman was arrested and charged with rolling her boyfriend's arm up in her car window and dragging him. A man reported his girlfriend Stacey M. Stewart, 38, came to his Hadley Drive home on June 7 at 5:57 a.m. He had just returned from a night club and went to her car to talk to her about getting her some "weed," according to her warrant. A 53-year-old East Palo Alto man who allegedly attacked his ex-girlfriend at a church function and knocked his mother to the ground when she tried to intervene pleaded not guilty to assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse and domestic violence charges. Denver police officials say they were delayed in responding to a woman who was killed 12 minutes into a 911 call due to a dispatcher's failure to relay information to officers about the gravity of the situation. An internal review says officers' response to the woman's home was reasonable and appropriate, given the limited information the dispatcher gave them. Three New Jersey teens frantically used their cellphones to call for help from a sinking van after their troubled mother drove them into a river, their father said. Ultimately, a passer-by helped all four escape from the cold Delaware River in Florence Township, N.J., after one sibling kicked out a window. Authorities say a Tucson man suspected of drunken driving is in custody for allegedly running over his wife and killing her. Tucson police said 48-year-old Todd Rounds is being held on $100,000 bond in Pima County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder. Detectives are now investigating a family’s claim that their father was beaten to death by several Moore Police officers. A Dallas man who police say admitted to killing his mistress after she revealed that she was HIV positive told police, "She killed me, so I killed her." Larry Dunn, who has not yet tested positive for HIV, visited Cicely Lee Bolden's home for unprotected sex one last time in September 2012, and then took a knife from the kitchen and stabbed Bolden in the neck as she laid in bed, according to his video testimony that was played in court at his murder trial. Authorities say Martin Montano, a New Mexico man, beat up two people and threw one of the victims from a bridge into the Rio Grande. The station also said that one of the victims was the suspect's mother, according to police. An Arizona millionaire is being held on multiple charges after he allegedly attempted to hire a hit man to murder his wife, then tried it again while he was in custody awaiting trial on the first charge, according to police. Fred Knadler, 75, was indicted on two additional counts of conspiracy to commit murder after he was "actively soliciting people while in custody" to murder his wife and former employee Patrick King, according to Sergeant Steve Martos of Phoenix Police Department. A husband hacked his wife with a meat cleaver on a bustling Chinatown street before firefighters tackled him, police said. Ming Guang Huang, 28, was hospitalized for a psychiatric evaluation after being arrested on attempted murder and other charges, police said. A man has admitted assaulting his girlfriend in the maternity ward of a suburban Philadelphia hospital during an argument over what to name their newborn baby. Twenty-three-year-old Richard Lavon Davis Jr. of Philadelphia pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of simple assault in connection with the January 2012 incident at Lankenau Hospital in Lower Merion. 2 Wounded in Shooting Outside Courthouse

A man involved in a paternity dispute opened fire Wednesday in front of a South Carolina courthouse, wounding a woman and her stepfather, then led police on a 12-mile chase before he was caught, a sheriff said. Suspect Curtis Gorny and 21-year-old Olivia Weaver were at the Chesterfield County courthouse for a paternity test and at about 12:30 p.m., Weaver was shot in the face and torso, said Sheriff Sam Parker. A 59-year-old Davenport man accused of setting his wife on fire was arrested after he was released from a hospital. The Quad-City Times says Tom Kuan is charged with arson, attempted murder and domestic abuse. Court records say firefighters found Kuan lying on the floor of his residence on Dec. 5. Girlfriend Arrested in Man's Stabbing Death

A Houston woman has been accused in the stabbing death of her boyfriend in southwest Houston. Police arrested Ulessia Procter, 28, a short time after she allegedly stabbed Michael Black Curry, 30, during an argument that turned physical at a friend's apartment. Curry ran out of the apartment holding his neck and collapsed on the sidewalk in front of the apartment. Gunman Shoots Woman, Himself at Church

A Florida church service ended in tragedy Sunday afternoon when a man shot a woman multiple times, then killed himself outside the building, authorities and witnesses said. Hundreds of congregants were exiting the sanctuary at Faith Center Church in the city of Sunrise just before 1 p.m. ET when the man began opening fire at the woman, possibly his ex-girlfriend, Sunrise police said. Teen Shoots Father to Protect Mom

A Florida teen who fatally shot his father in a desperate bid to save his mother from being choked has not been charged, police said. The shooting happened as a group of family and friends were gathered around a bonfire outside a mobile home in Plant City, a rural area northeast of Tampa. Police said the teen's parents went into the mobile home and got into an argument that escalated when the father, identified as Christopher Thorpe, began striking his wife, Jill. Read more...

Man Arrested for Stalking Ex-Girlfriend

Biloxi police say a 28-year-old man has been arrested on charges of aggravated stalking, burglary and felony malicious mischief against his ex-girlfriend. Drake Sermos was taken to Harrison County jail and accused of breaking a no-contact order against him because of prior stalking complaints, according to Sgt. Donnie Dobbs. Police believe Sermos was stalking his ex-girlfriend in an attempt to get back together with her. Read more...

Woman Found With Throat Slashed

Authorities have arrested a 30-year-old Burlington, Wash., man hours after a woman walked out of woods south of Bellingham with her throat cut. Skagit County Undersheriff Tom Molitor says the suspect, who was in a domestic relationship with the victim, was arrested in Eastern Washington. The man will be transferred to Skagit County. The woman was rushed to a hospital in Bellingham where she is expected to recover. Read more...

Woman Convicted in Saw Attack on Husband

A Washington state woman accused of trying to decapitate her sleeping husband with an electric saw was convicted of attempted murder. Jurors needed only about three hours to reach a verdict in the trial of Renee Bishop-McKean of Everett. They also convicted the 44-year-old woman of first-degree assault for hitting the man in the head with a hatchet and mallet. The jury was told the noise of the saw woke the victim last Oct. 14 and he fought his wife off. He was treated for cuts and scrapes. Read more...

Woman Arrested Four Times in 26 Hours

A New Hampshire woman was arrested fours times within 26 hours for refusing to turn down her radio and assaulting her nephew, officials said. Joyce Coffey, 53, is facing several charges for her three arrests over her blaring rock music and another arrest for allegedly throwing a frying pan at her nephew. Read more...

Boy, 13, Attacks Mother With Hammer

Police say a 13-year-old South Texas boy has been accused of using a hammer to beat his mother. Corpus Christi police said that the child has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon-family violence. Senior Officer Julie Garcia says the boy remains in juvenile custody. His name hasn't been released. Garcia says the mother suffered head, arm and facial injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. Read more...

Chad Johnson Arrested for Domestic Violence

Chad Johnson's teammates were taking the field for practice at the Miami Dolphins' training camp just as he walked out of jail. He missed the workout, and it's unclear whether he'll be back. The six-time Pro Bowl receiver, formerly known as Chad Ochocinco, was released on $2,500 bond a day after his wife accused him of head-butting her during an argument in front of their home. Man Kept Wife in Chains for Decade

Authorities say a West Virginia man tortured his wife and kept her in chains for a decade, treating her as his slave. A criminal complaint says the 43-year-old victim was burned on her back and breasts with irons and frying pans, and her foot was smashed under farm equipment. She also allegedly delivered a stillborn child while in chains. Another infant survived. Thirty-seven-year-old Peter Lizon of Leroy was in jail on $300,000 bond Wednesday. Ohio State Coach Urban Meyer dismissed senior linebacker Storm Klein from the football team following his arrest on domestic violence and assault charges. Klein pleaded not guilty to the charges on after being arrested by Columbus police. Man Shoots Mother Five Times, Kills Self

A Pittsburgh man called 911 to report that he shot his mother and then killed himself before police arrived on the scene. The 73-year-old woman, who was shot five times, was expected to recover, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. Her 55-year-old son, Henry Sunder, called 911 and confessed to the shooting, police said. He told the dispatcher he would wait at the home they shared for officers to arrive and kill him. 'Swamp People' Star Arrested in Florida

One of the stars of the TV reality show "Swamp People" has been arrested in Florida on domestic violence charges. Noces Joseph LaFont Jr. — who is known as "Trapper Joe" on TV — was arrested Wednesday by Orange County Sheriff's deputies. According to an arrest affidavit, LaFont was arguing with his girlfriend while staying at a hotel near Disney World and tried to burn her with a lit cigarette. Woman Doused in Gas, Set on Fire

A woman was severely burned Monday after being doused in gasoline and lit on fire outside a 7-Eleven store in South Florida in a dispute with the father of her child, police said. The 34-year-old woman was waiting in her silver Mercedes at the store shortly before 3 a.m., Boynton Beach Police spokeswoman Stephanie Slater said. Woman Accused of Burning Roommate Alive

A woman was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and other felony offenses after allegedly killing her roommate by throwing gasoline on him, then setting him on fire at their apartment in Anchorage, Alaska. Beauty Queen Faces Assault Charges

Police say a former Miss New Hampshire USA faces a simple assault charge stemming from a confrontation with her boyfriend. Police said that 26-year-old Nicole Houde was arrested after the Manchester beauty queen punched, kicked, scratched and bit 33-year-old Scott Nickerson, also of Manchester. A Missouri teenager accused of pouring gasoline on a 13-year-old and setting the child on fire has been charged with first-degree assault. Seventeen-year-old Joseph D. Actor Lane Garrison was arrested for felony domestic violence. The incident occurred at the Beverly Hills apartment of Garrison's girlfriend Ashley Mattingly. Mattingly said the problems started when she and Garrison went to the Playboy Mansion and the former "Prison Break" star drank too much and began "hovering over Hef." Officer Arrested After Assaulting Fiancee

A rookie NYPD cop was arrested in Queens for assaulting his fiancée, officials said. Off-duty Officer Alexandru Baiasu, 27, was arrested at his Rego Park home after attacking his 31-year-old fiancée during an argument, cops said. Man Arrested for Trying to Burn Ex-Girlfriend

Cedar Rapids police have arrested a man who they say tried to light his ex-girlfriend on fire. The victim told dispatchers a man had sprayed a flammable liquid on her and tried to light her on fire. Sgt. Joe Clark said that the woman's coat caught fire, but she was able to remove it before suffering any serious injury. Details about her condition were not immediately released. Read more...

Man Gets 26-Year Jail Term for Stalking

In what prosecutors called the longest sentence for stalking in memory, a Seattle-area man was given a 26 1/2-year prison term for waging a 17-year campaign of harassment against a former classmate he met in middle school, and instilling fear in her. Shawn Moul, 31, passively accepted the sentence from King County Superior Court Judge Patrick Oishi on Tuesday, some six months after being convicted on two felony counts of stalking and 19 counts of violating anti-harassment orders. Man Gets 200 Years for Setting Girlfriend on Fire

A Georgia man who poured gasoline over his girlfriend and set her on fire was sentenced to more than 200 years in prison. A jury found Orville Brooks, 30, guilty of the attack on Tara Best in the couple's apartment a year ago. He was convicted on eight counts, including false imprisonment and criminal intent to commit murder, before Clayton County Judge Geronda Carter sentenced Brooks to 205 years in jail. Read more...
