Castro to Plead Not Guilty
The attorneys for a Cleveland man accused of keeping three women in captivity for about a decade say he will plead not guilty. Attorneys Craig Weintraub and Jay Schlachet said that suspect Ariel Castro has been portrayed as a "monster" in the media, and after meeting with him they don't see him that way. Michelle Knight Was Main 'Punching Bag'
The man accused of kidnapping three Cleveland women and holding them for close to a decade abused all of them but used captive Michelle Knight as his main "punching bag," a family friend of one of the victims said. The friend said suspect Ariel Castro hit Knight with a variety of objects, including hand weights. Ohio Kidnap Victims Request Privacy
Three women who were kept captive in a Cleveland home for more than 10 years have asked the media to respect their privacy and will not be giving interviews until the criminal case is over, their attorney said. The three victims said they just want time to be with their families and take time to heal. Cleveland police say the two brothers of the man accused of keeping women captive in his house have been released from custody. Police announced that 54-year-old Pedro Castro and 50-year-old Onil Castro had been released from jail. School Searched in Ohio Rape Case
Search warrants were executed at Steubenville High School and the offices of the Steubenville Board of Education as part of the ongoing investigation into the rape of a teenage girl that was captured in social media posts, the Ohio Attorney General's Office said. Two star high school football players, 17-year-old Trent Mays and 16-year-old Ma'lik Richmond, were found guilty in juvenile court of the sexual assault of the 16-year-old girl, who authorities say was intoxicated. Ohio's top law enforcement official says the investigation of wrongdoing in a city where two high school football players raped a 16-year-old girl is far from over. Two Ohio high school football players have been found guilty of raping a drunken 16-year-old girl in a case that roiled a small city and stirred reaction from activists online. A Connecticut man who became known as the "East Coast Rapist" for a series of sexual assaults over more than a decade from Rhode Island to Virginia has been sentenced to life in prison. The three life terms imposed on Aaron Thomas of New Haven, Conn., followed his guilty plea last year in Manassas for abducting three teenage trick-or-treaters and raping two of them on Halloween 2009 in Prince William County. A Livermore mother who was sentenced to five years in prison for having sex with two underage teen boys has been released from state incarceration but is back in jail after being arrested last week in Hayward on a parole violation. Christine Shreeve Hubbs, 44, remains at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin on a no-bail hold. Hubbs was arrested in Hayward, according to Alameda County's inmate locator. A parolee abducted and raped a Central Michigan University student, set a house on fire where the woman had fled for help and was fatally shot miles away by a sheriff's deputy, authorities said. A 42-year-old Texas man, Jimmy Billingsley, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for infecting a woman with HIV by having unprotected sex with her, despite being aware of his HIV-positive status. Men Charged in Rape, Home Invasion
Two St. Louis men were charged in a rape and home invasion last week in St. Louis. Leland Hughes and Shawn T. Borders, both 21, were charged with multiple counts of forcible rape, sodomy, robbery, kidnapping, burglary, theft, armed criminal action and resisting arrest. They were each being held in lieu of a $250,000 cash bail. Police arrested Hughes and Borders after they fled officers in a stolen 2012 Volkswagen Passat and crashed into another vehicle. Police said that they have arrested a homeless man in the daytime rape of a 73-year-old woman in New York's Central Park. An Arizona man has been sentenced to 52 life prison terms for sexually abusing three girls in Texas in the 1980s. 59-year-old Rickie Moore of Phoenix must serve the terms concurrently. A California hockey mom is alleged to have netted a few of her son's teammates. Kathia Maria Davis, of Laguna Nigel, went on trial to face allegations she had sex with two minors aged 13 and 16. Nearly one in six convicted sex offenders is using sophisticated techniques invented by identity thieves to avoid their legally mandated registration requirements, a new study has found. These digital absconders might be able to avoid post-incarceration restrictions by living near schools and playgrounds, and could possibly gain employment working with children. Auburn resident Joshua Grant, 36, was arrested on suspicion of molesting a young girl last year. A man on parole for trying to infect children with HIV nearly twenty years ago pulled a boy into a Portland restaurant bathroom over the weekend, attempted to sexually assault him and then stabbed him several times, police said. Coach Charged With Sexual Assault
A McEachern High School coach and teacher was arrested and charged with felony sexual assault, Cobb County police said. Terence Termayne Tarpley, 33, of Marietta, was allegedly engaged in an off-campus sexual relationship with an adult female student earlier this year, investigators said. FBI Saves 79 Kids Held as Sex Slaves
The FBI, working alongside state and local authorities across the U.S., rescued 79 minors being held as sex slaves, the agency announced. The minors – two of whom were boys, the rest girls – were taken from 57 different cities during "Operation Cross Country" raids. Man Arrested for Cyber-Stalking
Officials say a 20-year-old Biloxi man has been arrested on charges of cyber-stalking after he threatened on Facebook to kill a family. Byron Charles Miller threatened to kill a 17-year-old girl and her parents in posts on Facebook and another website, according to Sgt. Donnie Dobbs of the Biloxi police. Dobbs said Miller threatened the family because they were pursuing a charge against him for obscene electronic communications.

Butte-Silver Bow law officers arrested a registered sex offender after discovering he was babysitting a 3-year-old. Authorities say the child showed no signs of abuse. Sheriff John Walsh says 59-year-old Michael Mattix was arrested just before 11 a.m. Thursday after someone called police concerned about the small child playing around a vehicle. A former police officer admitted that he raped a schoolteacher he grabbed off the street on her way to work, pleading guilty to rape charges that had stymied jurors who convicted him of other high-level sex crimes in the same attack. Already sentenced to 75 years to life in prison on his March conviction, Michael Pena is to be sentenced next month to at least 10 years for the rape charges. A Georgia man was arrested after he secretly taped Hooters pageant contestants changing into their bikinis at the Fontainebleau hotel in Miami Beach, authorities said. Ronald Rolfes, 31, was arrested Sunday at the hotel and faces one count of video voyeurism. He was recording contestants for the 2012 Hooters International Pageant while they changed in the Splash 5 room, Miami Beach Police said. A former South Carolina teacher and coach has been sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to nearly two dozen child sex charges. Louis "Skip" ReVille was sentenced by a circuit judge in a case that came to public attention about the same time as the Penn State sex abuse case. Nearly 200 child predators have been arrested and 18 victims rescued in a nationwide undercover operation, federal authorities announced. The month-long investigation -- called "Operation Orion" -- was conducted in May by special agents from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations unit. The Aurora man charged with peering into girls' windows and entering homes in Aurora is now facing child pornography charges. Erik Paxton was charged in Kane County Court with possessing child pornography. Authorities said none of the images Paxton allegedly possessed are of children he had contact with at work or in his Aurora neighborhood. A man has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a child inside a Walmart store in Oxnard. A child told officers that he had been in the electronics area of the store when a Hispanic male adult approached him and sexually assaulted him. A Santa Maria police officer was shot and killed Saturday by a fellow officer who was trying to arrest him for suspected sexual misconduct with a minor, the Santa Maria Times reported.
