Mom Blows Off Fatal Crash

An Arizona woman being arrested for a car crash that killed a 5-year-old child had two words to say when informed that the boy had died: "s---t happens." Those callous words were recorded by Glendale police officers while booking 24-year-old Aaronessa Keaton behind bars Monday for charges including manslaughter for last year's collision. Court documents show that the Phoenix woman, who gave birth to a premature baby girl via C-section shortly after the Feb. 28, 2014 crash, was found with marijuana and sedatives in her system. 'Tombstone' Stunt Results in Arrest

A Florida man who accidentally shot and killed his sister while reenacting a Western movie at her birthday party has been charged with manslaughter, police said. Eric Stayton was booked into jail Friday, nearly seven months after his gun-twirling routine, modeled after a barroom showdown in the 1993 flick "Tombstone," led to the death of 39-year-old Renee Chaires. Fugitive Nabbed After Posting Location

A Maine man wanted by the cops took to Snapchat to announce he was going back to his home in Fairfield. Which prompted a round of calls to the Somerset County Sheriff's office telling authorities about the social media notes from fugitive Christopher Wallace. Deputies then surrounded the house, which prompted a second text from Wallace, saying he was hiding in a cabinet. Case solved. Wallace, arrested in the cabinet on Monday, was wanted in connection with a January theft of a propane cooking stove and a cast iron wood stove. Read more...

Florida Mugger Shoots Himself

A Florida thief accidentally shot himself during a stick-up, and the wound led him on a desperate few minutes that ended with him flagging down a police officer from a Mercedes he took from a strip club, the Orange County Sheriff's Office reports. Lashawn Williams, 24, allegedly took a phone from a victim but when he fled he shot himself. Read more...

Woman, 19, Arrested in Homicide

Police arrested a 19-year-old woman they believe played a role in the death of a man found in his Gilroy home last week, authorities said. Police responded to a home on the 1400 block of Bay Tree Drive after neighbors complained of dogs barking loudly. Officers found an unconscious man, later identified as 56-year-old Robert Joseph Heiser, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Police arrested Gabriela Bernice Ortiz, 19, of San Jose, who was seen on video using the man's credit card. Read more...

Killer Takes Selfie With Victim

A 16-year-old accused murdered was caught after taking a selfie next to the dead body, police said. Authorities received the selfie Maxwell Marion Morton took next to the body of Jeannette High School classmate Ryan Mangan (pictured) in the victim's home. Morton was charged with first-degree murder, homicide and possession of a firearm by a minor. Mangan was shot in the face and authorities said his mother found his lifeless body in their home Wednesday. Read more...

Cellphone Photo Nails Teen Thieves

Two teens in Macomb Township, Mich., went on a stealing spree re-creating Dr. Seuss' "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." Brandon Joel Chait, 18, and Brandon Maier Ancell, 19, were arrested after stealing packages from people's front doors. The men were caught by a quick-thinking neighbor who saw them taking a Macy's package from his neighbor's front door. As he saw them leave, he took out his phone, took a quick picture and called the police. Read more...

Burglars Captured on Home Video

A pair of California burglars ransacked a home but did not take the surveillance camera that took the remarkably clear images that led to them being identified by police. The amazingly clear video, which was placed in the corner inside a Sunnyvale apartment, had the perfect view of the suspects, identified as Carrisa Barreto, 36, and Fernando Ricardo Angeles, 34, as they entered through the front door, police said. Sunnyvale police identified the suspects Monday and said both were on probation. Warrants have been issued for their arrest. Read more...

Video Leads Cops to Vandals

Police in suburban Houston arrested two teenagers for damaging a home under construction after linking them to video the teens posted on the popular messaging app. League City authorities say the two teens, ages 14 and 15, broke windows and put holes into drywall. Someone saw the teens' video on Snapchat, was able to save it and alerted police. The boys are charged with felony criminal mischief. Read more...

Stoner Texts Officer for Weed

A Georgia man pleaded guilty to violating his probation by mistakenly asking his probation officer for marijuana. "You have some weed," asked Alvin Cross Jr., of Albany, in a text message intended for his drug dealer. Cross sent the message to the officer instead. The text landed Cross one year in prison for violating his probation, in addition to another year on a drug charge after police raided his apartment and found cocaine. Read more...

Paranoia Drives Man to Confess

A paranoid former drug addict felt compelled to confess to a murder he committed 17 years ago after receiving unrelated phone calls and mail from Walmart. Matthew Gibson, 55, became alarmed in June after someone from the retailer called to tell him a prescription for someone he did not know was ready. So alarmed that he drove all night from his home in Boone, N.C., to the police station in Winslow, Ariz., to confess to the crime. Read more...

Burglary Suspect Caught Napping

A Florida burglary suspect is facing charges after police found him asleep in the bedroom of a home he was allegedly trying to rob. The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office said they were responding to a burglary call Monday at a residence in Nokomis, Fla., when they found Dion Davis, 29, asleep on a bed next to a bag of stolen jewelry. A cleaning lady made the call to authorities after discovering the passed out suspect. Read more...

2 Arrested for Not Pulling Up Pants

A pair of South Carolina men were busted for disorderly conduct after they refused to pull up their trousers during a disturbance at a local Waffle House, authorities said. Andrew Gehring and Donovan Johnson, both 22, became hostile after a security guard at the restaurant "asked them to leave for failing to comply with his request to pull their pants up and not show their boxers," according to the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office report. Offender Escapes 6 Days Before Release

A convicted sex offender who escaped from a North Portland jail just six days before his scheduled release is back in custody after authorities found him at a Jack in the Box restaurant a few miles away. According to the station, Medlin had been jailed on charges of sex abuse, assault and burglary. He had already served 272 days and was scheduled to be released May 6. Read more...

Police in Northern California say a man was arrested after he arrived for a court appearance driving a stolen car. James Manning was taken into custody after police say they received a call from an auto dealership in Redding reporting a vehicle was stolen. As luck would have it, the 2001 Mitsubishi's GPS indicated it was parked in front of the Tuolumne County courthouse. Read more...

An armed Omaha teen carjacker out on bond is back behind bars because he stole a woman's car early Thursday but was stumped by the stick shift. Mganga Mganga, 17, ran up to Melissa Peters as the woman prepared to drive her 13-year-old son to school around 7 a.m. Mganga tried to start the car but struggled as he started the windshield wipers and flicked the lights as he tried to work the manual transmission. A joint police investigation has led to the arrest of a Tennessee assistant football coach who is accused of painting his team's field house with vulgarities and making it seem like the work of a rival team. Marion County High School teacher Michael Schmitt is charged with vandalism. It reports the arrest came as a result of a joint investigation by Jasper police and the sheriff's department. Man Arrested in Gas Station Fire

Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens says a Clarksville man accused in a gas station fire that injured his wife is being held in the Habersham County Jail. Officials say 37-year-old Austin Dawkins was arrested and charged with reckless conduct for igniting a cigarette lighter near his gas tank while he was fueling his truck. Surveillance cameras were recording as gas vapors ignited where Dawkins' 30-year-old wife was standing. Read more...

Man Tries to Pay Water Bill With Cocaine

An unidentified man reportedly walked up to a clerk at the Deltona Water office earlier this week and handed her an unmarked envelope containing a clear plastic bag with 3 grams of cocaine in it. Customers typically come to that counter to pay their bills. The man, wearing a t-shirt and shorts, reportedly walked into the water office and handed the clerk the envelope, walked out, and departed on a bicycle. Read more...

Jewelry Leads To Murder Arrest

A custom-made gold chain and medallion featuring the Disney character Scrooge McDuck that was ripped from the neck of a murder victim on Flatbush Avenue on July 13 helped police track down two men they say are responsible for the killing. Tyquan Turner, 21, of Cherry Street in Hartford, faces murder, conspiracy and weapons charges. Lorenza Christian, 22, of Lennox Street, Hartford, faces a charge of conspiracy to commit murder. The two were charged in the killing of Miguel Rodriguez, 25 of Hartford. Read more...

Rap Lyrics Lead to Murder Arrest

Rap lyrics may have been the break police in Newport News, Va., needed to solve a double murder from 2007. Police in the southern Virginia town arrested Antwain Steward, 22, on July 9 after receiving a tip that the rapper had made a song in which investigators believe he describes committing two unsolved murders. Steward has been charged in connection with a pair of killings dating back to May 10, 2007. Read more...

Arrest Made In Howard's Rock Case

Clemson University police arrested an 18-year-old in connection with vandalism to Howard's Rock and charged him with one felony and one misdemeanor. Micah Rogers of Pisgah Forest, N.C., was charged with felony malicious injury to animals or personal property valued at more than $2,000 but less than $10,000 and misdemeanor trespassing. Howard's Rock, the iconic fixture Tigers football players rub before entering Memorial Stadium, was vandalized June 2. The protective casing was destroyed and a chunk of the rock was chipped away. Capt. Eric Hendricks said the vandalism was captured partially by video surveillance cameras. A witness also identified the suspect. Read more...

Robbers Butt Dial 911 During Break-In

Two suspects arrested for breaking into a car in Central California accidentally called 911 on a cellphone, which led police to them. A dispatcher was able to hear a rambling 35-minute conversation between the men as they discussed buying drugs and what implements to use to break into vehicles in Fresno. The dispatcher listened in as the suspects smashed a car's window and found prescription drugs. Read more...

Juror Jailed for Texting During Trial

A judge in Oregon noticed an unexpected glow on a juror's chest while the courtroom lights were dimmed during video evidence in an armed-robbery trial. The juror, it seemed, was texting. Marion County Circuit Judge Dennis Graves cleared the courtroom and excused all jurors except 26-year-old Benjamin Kohler. According to a news release from the Marion County Sheriff's Office, Kohler had no explanation for his actions. Read more...

A Virginia woman who falsely reported a Monday morning robbery at a Waffle House as an April Fools' Day prank has been arrested by police. Susan Alexandria Tinker, 20, an employee at a Hampton, Va., branch of the Waffle House chain, allegedly called local authorities just before 6 a.m. Monday and claimed the restaurant was raided by robbers five minutes earlier, Hampton Police Division Cpl. A Colorado waitress checking to see if a female patron was legally old enough to drink was handed her own stolen driver's license. Brianna Priddy, of Lakewood, pretended nothing was wrong when the unidentified customer presented her with the license. "I don't know how I kept it cool. Burgler Leaves His Picture at Scene

A Santa Cruz man was arrested over the weekend after he allegedly left a camera containing a picture of himself at the scene of a burglary, police said. Officers responded to reports that two businesses in the 800 block of Pacific Avenue had been broken into through their back doors, according to Santa Cruz police. Both businesses Santa Cruz Glass and Kayber Pass Restaurant were ransacked, and one had more than $170 stolen from a cash register, police said. Read more...

Two Teens Arrested After Fight Video

A 14-year-old and a 16-year-old were arrested Thursday for their role in a fistfight that was captured on video and placed online, Kissimmee police said. The brawl occurred Feb. 6 near Kissimmee Middle School. The 14-year-old boy attends Kissimmee Middle School. He was arrested about 8:30 a.m., just before classes started for the day. Investigators say a South Carolina teen offered to pay his friends $5,000 to kill the grandparents who raised him because they were too strict. Chester County Sheriff's Maj. Bill Murphy said 17-year-old Clayton Watts waited with two friends for his grandparents to come home Tuesday evening, then ambushed 59-year-old Jimmie Paul and killed her with three gunshots in the chest. Woman Arrested in Dead Baby Hoax

A 21-year-old woman is charged with making a false statement to police after starting a rumor that she found a dead baby in the trash. Montezuma police say Alexis Boland was on her way to work at a dollar store and saw a baby doll in a trash bin. Boland told police she thought it would be funny to play a joke on a co-worker and say she saw a dead baby. Police say customers overheard Boland telling her co-worker the story and calls began flooding the department. Read more...

2 Teens, 12-Year-Old Charged in Murder

Two teenagers and a 12-year-old girl have been charged in the shooting death of a North Carolina man during a carjacking. Investigators say the three approached 35-year-old Johnny Danilo Villatoro of Durham on Friday night and asked him for a ride before carjacking and shooting him. Authorities found Villatoro lying in the street, and he later died at a hospital. Police say the 12-year-old suspect accidentally shot herself in the stomach and leg while inside Villatoro's car. Man Charged With Texting While Driving

An eastern Utah man was charged Wednesday with hitting and killing a Vernal teenager with his car while texting behind the wheel. Jeffery Bascom, 28, of Jensen, was charged in 8th District Court with automobile homicide involving the use of a hand-held wireless communication device while driving, a second-degree felony, as well as obstruction of justice, a third-degree felony. Robber Complaints Bank Shortchanged Him

Going back to a bank you just ripped off to claim you'd been shortchanged isn't likely to end well. That's what police say led to an arrest in upstate New York. Syracuse police say 28-year-old Arthur Bundrage, of East Syracuse, went into a bank at about 9 a.m. and demanded $20,000. Authorities say a teller initially refused, but relented and gave him some money, even though he never showed a weapon or made a threat. Read more...

Man Arrested in LSU Bomb Threat Case

A man has been arrested in connection with a bomb threat that led to the evacuation of Louisiana State University, but he does not appear to be linked to recent threats against other universities, school police said. William Bouvay, 42, of Baton Rouge, was arrested late on Tuesday on charges of communicating false information of a planned bombing, the university police said. Mom Charged for Helping Teen Vandals

A North Texas woman has been charged in an alleged neighborhood prank using raw chicken, mustard and peanut butter to cause $6,000 in damage. Tara Mauney of Colleyville has been charged with felony criminal mischief in the July incident. She's free on $7,500 bond. The 41-year-old woman allegedly helped several middle school students buy toilet paper to litter a residence where some girls were having a sleepover. Mustard and peanut butter were smeared or used to write graffiti. Chicken was left in a mailbox. Read more...

Woman Pulls Gun on Man During Sex in Moving Car

A Florida woman who allegedly pulled a gun on a man during sex and demanded money, causing him to lose control of his moving car, was arrested, police said. The woman, Amanda Jean Linscott, 26, fled the scene on foot after the vehicle struck a palm tree, went airborne and plowed through two front yards, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office in Port Charlotte, Fla. Man Tries to Buy Beer With Bartender's Credit Card

A homeless man broke into a car in Miami Beach, stole a credit card belonging to a bartender and tried to use it to buy a beer from the victim, police said. Miami Beach Police said David Weber, 53, walked into the Clevelander Bar on Ocean Drive in South Beach and handed Bradley Fuller a credit card, which Fuller determined was his own. He asked Weber what his name was and he said "Bradley Fuller," according to the offense incident report. Read more...

Murder Suspect Kills Self After Stealing Plane

A pilot suspected of murdering his girlfriend stole a passenger plane at an airport in Utah, taxied it into a parking lot, then shot himself dead on board, police and officials said. Brian Hedglin, a 40-year-old pilot for SkyWest Airlines, scaled a security fence at St. George Municipal Airport using a rug and some gloves, said Marc Mortensen, a spokesman for the city of St. George. A man has been ordered to pay more than $32,000 in back child support after being lured back to Pennsylvania with the promise of a bogus role in a Jennifer Aniston movie. Joshua Garlathy pleaded guilty Tuesday to willful failure to pay child support more than a month after he was arrested after his flight from Hawaii landed in Philadelphia. Woman Robs Same Store Three Times in Two Days

A woman who robbed the same liquor store three times in less than 24 hours was arrested at her home in Fall River, Mass., police said. Latasha Singletary, 30, is charged with two counts of armed robbery and one count of robbery while masked. Trapped Bank Robber Cut From Air Duct

A wig-wearing man broke into a suburban Chicago bank vault and nearly made off with $100,000 but got stuck in an air duct and had to be cut out hours later, authorities said. Charles Estell, 38, was found hiding in an air duct in an office next to the bank, according to Oak Lawn police spokesman Michael Kaufmann. The Chicago man had allegedly robbed the suburban bank and pointed a gun at bank employees who confronted him in the vault, according to the FBI. Read more...

Teen Arrested After Homework Left at Crime Scene

An 18-year-old Utah man was arrested on suspicion of burglary after police say he left his homework at the crime scene. Police in Orem say they tracked a USB drive found at the burglarized home to Dallas Naljahih. They say the computer hard drive contained his homework and was in a backpack abandoned in the backyard. A 75-year-old man and his wife reported their home had been burglarized. The husband says he was woken up by a light in his office, and found a man who was looking through a desk. Read more...

Man's Road Rage Incident Kills Wife

A Greenbrier man is charged with vehicular homicide in the death of his own wife after he and another driver sparred with their pickup trucks during a possible bout of road rage on a Good-lettsville highway. Charles Myres, 45, and Justin Bennett, 32, have been charged with vehicular homicide and two counts of aggravated assault in the March 23 death of Sharon Myres and injury of two others. Police and prosecutors have said the case is unusual in that two drivers are being held responsible for Sharon Myres' death. Read more...

Police in Sanford, Fla., say a marked patrol car was shot at several times while parked near the gated community where teenager Trayvon Martin was shot and killed. No one was inside the cruiser at the time of the 4:30 a.m. shooting, according to Seminole County Sheriff's Office deputies, NBC News affiliate WESH-TV in Orlando reported. Read more...

'Sausage Rage' Cited in 7-Eleven Attack

Police in southern New Jersey say a woman began attacking a 7-Eleven employee when she found out the store did not have any sausages. An officer responding to a panic alarm said that as he began to enter the store, he saw the suspect, Brittany Glanville, trying to climb over the counter to go after the clerk, Chief Mark Ott told the paper. Glanville, 25, was immediately arrested and put in the officer's patrol car, where she tried to kick out the vehicle's windows. Mom Punches Son During Anger Management Class

A Kentucky woman was arrested after allegedly punching her son in the face during her anger management class. Misty Lawson, 30, of Louisville, was taking the class when police say she punched the 10-year-old boy several times in the face and body, according to the station. Teens Attacking Man, 65, Get Surprise

A 65-year-old man who was knocked off his bicycle by three teenagers on a Pennsylvania trail shot two of them, killing one, police said according to reports. The wounded teen, 16, was taken to hospital and the third, aged 15, was taken in for questioning and was later committed to a youth center. According to police, the 65-year-old was riding his bicycle when the teens knocked him to the ground, the station said. Police said two teens then assaulted the man, who drew his gun and shot them.
